Win tickets to Handel’s Messiah at Christ Church Cathedral

Following our competition for tickets to the Abbey Theatre, we’re upping the Culch culchure by giving you the chance to win tickets to see Handel’s Messiah performed at Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral in April.

If you’ve never seen Messiah performed live or even better if you’ve never been to Christ Church for a concert, this is your chance to enjoy one of the most popular works of Western Choral literature.

EDIT: Competition is now closed and winners have been contacted. We’ll announce the winners when they confirm ?

Telling the story of the birth, life and death of Jesus Christ, Handel’s Messiah is an incredible piece of music and, of course, premièred in Ireland – Fishamble Street in Dublin to be precise – in 1742.

This time around it’s being performed by the Christ Church Cathedral Choir and the Orchestra of St. Cecilia, directed by Judy Martin on Thursday April 16 at 7.30 p.m.

The Temple Bar Cultural Trust have arranged a brilliant festival of low cost and free events to celebrate Handel 250 – 250 years since Handel’s Death. The festival takes place from April 13 to 19 in the Old City area of Temple Bar and other historic venues.

There’s a full programme packed with Handel highlights including concerts, theatre, workshops, tours, talks and family activities. The hugely popular Messiah on the Street opens the festival on April 13. Other highlights include a dramatic performance of Handel’s Crossing by Joseph O’Connor where Handel will be brought to life on the Jeanie Johnston ship, for a theatrical re-imagining of Handel’s arrival to Dublin in 1742. You can find out what’s happening here.

What you have to do for the tickets:

Once again I’d like to treat people who have either never been to a concert in Christ Church or never heard the Messiah being performed live to the tickets. The wonderful Julie from Temple Bar Cultural Trust has arranged four tickets, so two Culch.ie winners have the chance to go.

All you have to do is comment below and the two winners will be chosen on Monday, April 13. We like creative comments so let your imagination run wild. Good luck!

Oooh marvellous!! I qualify on both counts but I’m already going so I’ll stay out of it ?
I’m really looking forward to it though, I bet the atmosphere will be electric ?

  2. Definitely interested in this. Woudl love to go see handles messiah a little way from it’s home.

  3. I’ve never been to the Messiah? Is it a sing along? Like the Sound of Music? Do we get to dress up? Choose me please

  4. Katherine says:

Sounds magical – shivers down the spine and hairs lifting on end… just the way a choral production is meant to be…

  5. monkeyfudge says:

I have been to a concert in Christ Church… but it was 10 years ago and it was Suzanne Vega. Tom’s Dinner is pretty far removed from Handel.

  6. Elly Parker says:

Oh wow – I’d be so up for this! I’ve never seen it performed and it would be wonderful to hear it in a venue such as Christchurch!

I feel like the little kid in PE class in school “Pick me, pick me, pick me!!”

  7. sandra gough says:

I would love a chance to go to this brilliant night.

    Please make it happen!

    Best wishes,
    Sandra

  8. Gary says:

Handel’s Messi-ah! Isn’t he a footballer? This is a perfect opprtunity to civilize one of the uneducated masses. Kind of like ‘Educating Rita’ but with an Irish cast.

  9. NaRocRoc says:

I’d love to see Messiah J and the Expert in Christchurch, cheers Darragh!

  10. Claire says:

I would love to go and hear this, I’m a Christchurch/Handel newbie too :))

  11. Colm Tobin says:

I think we are going to need a messiah if we are going to get a handel on the current economic problems that we face. So I’d really like to go along (also I’ve never been to a concert there and LOVE the music).

  12. Looks awesome, saw posters for the festival around and totally spaced on the address for info, thanks guys ?

  13. Ben says:

Besides what people think. This is up my street. AlanCostello would understand. It’s an RIAM thing ?

oh and iv never been to Christ Church and never seen it performed either.

  14. Michael Kane says:

    Being of midlands domesticity,
surrounded by boglands, marshes and moors
and proud of my BIFFO heritage,
    And
having recently moved to the culture fest of city life,
    please please pleeeeease
find it in your powers to enlighten
    my need to
    further expand my undercultured enthusiasm.

I’ve never been to either Christchurch Cathedral or to a Handel Concert. Two tickets would be wonderful, thank you very much.

p.s. You couldn’t push it to three by any chance????

  15. Chandelr says:

Hand over the tickets or hear the Hallelujah Chorus ringtone…

“And he shall ring for e-ver and e-ver…
“And he shall ring for e-ver and e-ver…
“And he shall ring for e-ver and e-ver…”

    bebeep-ep-beep
    bebeep-ep-beep

  16. Anthony McG says:

Sticking the ma’s name in the hat. She’d love this.

  17. Elly Parker says:
