6Competition Closed: TheatreCLUB Stole Your Clock Radio @ The Project
***Competition Closed. Winners will be contacted ***
Ripped newspaper, smashed CDs, insistent energy and 80s beats don’t begin to sum up the frantic joyride that is THEATREclub Stole Your CLOCK RADIO what the F**K you gonna do about it? which is currently running at The Project in Temple Bar.
Brought to the stage by Shane Byrne, Roxanna Nic Liam and Brian Bennett under the direction of Doireann Coady and produced by Grace Dyas, ‘…Clock Radio…’ is really something different. It’s about being young in modern Ireland, having grown up in a land of promise only to have it all ripped away. It’s about having one last hurrah before an adulthood that was supposed to be better. It’s about doing something stupid like stealing a clock radio and maybe it’s just a little bit about eating apples and not liking Pat Kenny.
On first impression, it has the feel of improvisational theatre. The audience are greeted by each of the show’s three stars running onstage and saying half a line before running off again. There are costume changes mid-scene and characters making tea and playing Snap. At times it’s like watching somebody through the window of their student flat only to be reminded that there’s some very deftly scripted acting going on when Shane pours his tea, gradually lifting the pot further and further in the air but still somehow keeping the stream of liquid aimed at the cup on the table.
As well as all the fun of the fair – the jokes, the dance moves and the blaring soundtrack – there are real questions here. Real frustrated shouts. Real wonderings about what we’re all gonna do with ourselves, real commentary on the state the country finds itself in helpfully packaged in something that you can still watch with a light heart but come away from a bit more educated.
‘…Clock Radio…’ is running at The Project until Friday, nightly at 8.15 p.m. Tickets are €12 (€8 concession) and you should go see it. If you’d like Culch to send you to see it, leave us a comment. We’ve got three pairs of tickets to give away for Friday’s show and we’ll draw the names out of a hat tomorrow morning.
Good luck!
Saw this Tuesday, it’s an amazing show.
I’ll say this - it’s one of the most extraordinary pieces of youth theatre (and even labelling it that does it a disservice) that I’ve seen. The topical quotes, the incisive social commentary and the randomness as each actor brings a little piece of themselves into it is quite extraordinary and I’d highly recommend people see it.
I’d love to see this!
Gotta try and get to see this, and a free ticket would certainly help out with that.
Would love to see this
Thought this was brilliant. Thanks a mill for the tickets!
