A few weeks ago I was flown over to London for the day to check out some of EA’s upcoming titles for 2010. There are some really interesting titles coming so I’ve split my thoughts out into two posts. Enjoy:
Battlefield Bad Company 2 – Onslaught:
Bjorn Johnsson from Dice Games introduced us to ‘Onslaught’ mode which is downloadable content for Battlefield Bad Company 2 (out June 22nd). The new game mode is a co-op mode playable on Valparaiso, Atacama Desert, Isla Inocentes and Nelson Bay where up to 4 players face waves of enemies. I got my hands on it later in the day and it adds to an already impressive title and is definitely worth a download. The teaser trailer is below:
This game was something I hadn’t seen before, an MMO (massively multiplayer online) racing game. It’s not the first in the NFS universe though with Motor City Online having been released in 2001. NFS World is exclusive to PC for the moment and has integration with social networking sites like Facebook so you can add friends. There have been a number of open betas with the game set for release on July 20th.
Crytek have taken the Crysis series into an urban environment for this installment with the ‘New York, New York’ trailer having caused quite a stir on release. The FPS title has learned from the previous installment in how people used the cryo-suit and you can now combine powers like cloaking and jumping. The demo we saw was an early alpha but the CryENGINE (contrasting to the Unreal 3 engine) looks really good at handling the urban environment. Darren posted up the latest teaser earlier. It’s due out towards the end of this year.
This one suprised everyone in the room and justifiably so. Bulletstorm is a crazy FPS (first person shooter) based on the Unreal 3 game engine and is due in 2011. Developed by Epic Games (the lads behind Gears of War) and People Can Fly, it looks like pure entertainment from start to finish. You control Grayson Hunt, a member of a mercenary unit who was crossed by his boss and now needs to get off an abandoned paradise world and exact revenge. The combat moves and outrageous guns make it look like great fun and the graphics are fantastic. The game describes the killing of someone who you’ve just kicked in the nuts as ‘mercy’. That’ll give you an idea of what we’re in for come next year.
