First trailer for Cars 2

When Disney issue a new trailer that’s usually a good thing. When Disney issues a Pixar trailer doubly so. Today they issued first trailer for their next collaboration Cars 2!

The movie is a sequel to the 2006 film, and sees Mater (the tow-truck) caught in a global conspiracy when he and Lightning McQueen head to Europe for the inaugural world grand prix. Obviously Lightning things the world is now ready for his showboating style of driving.

A great voice-cast features Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, John Ratzenberger, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub and Cheech Marin. Sir Michael Caine has even got in on the action voicing Finn McMissile (what a name!). The behind the scenes talent is top-notch too with the movie being co-directed by John Lasseter (Cars) and Brad Lewis (Ratatouille).

Whilst the original wasn’t Pixar’s best received movie it was still an exceptionally well-made and well-told story. Cars 2 is released in Ireland July 22th, 2011.

Synopsis:

Star race-car Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in “Cars 2” when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage. Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world. Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colourful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.

John Lasseter returns to the driver’s seat to direct this follow-up to his 2006 Golden Globe®-winning Cars. Cars 2 is co-directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®-winning film Ratatouille, and produced by visual effects industry veteran Denise Ream (associate producer, Up; visual effects executive producer, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith).

It looks good and all, but I am not sure it is quite a sequel to Cars. More a re-imagining of the characters… Hmm…

It looks good and all, but I am not sure it is quite a sequel to Cars. More placing the characters into a new adventure. Maybe it should have been one of those straight to DVD efforts. Hmm…

Ooops. I stand by both comments tho.

with Michael Caine in the movie, part of me is hoping they do a homage to the car chase in the Italian Job

  5. I’m wondering why, out of all the other films they could have made a sequel to, such as The Incredibles, they chose this one. I mean the first Cars is probably Pixar’s lowest point (which in fairness is still miles ahead of the best efforts from many other animation studios) I’m guessing {ixar wanna try again with cars and see if they can bring it up to the standard of their other films.
