13Competition CLOSED: NYE Dublin
Looking for something to do this New Year’s in Dublin? How about the New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert in College Green? Paul Brady, Bressie and Damien Dempsey are just some of Ireland’s most-loved musicians scheduled to perform live at the gig featuring pyrotechnics and special effects.
That’s not all though. The concert is part of a larger three day festival taking place from December 30th 2011 – 1st January 2012 entitled NYE Dublin. It has been created to animate Dublin city centre, engage residents and attract visitors to the capital over the three day period.
During the festival, seasonal markets will be located in central locations across Dublin, including Wolfe Tone Square, Temple Bar and Barnardo Square. Children’s entertainment will be provided in various “kids’ fun zones” including an ice rink in Wolfe Tone Square. There will be a host of other activities scheduled across the city to entertain adults including Irish movie screenings in the Grand Social, readings and events at the James Joyce Centre and stunning projections on Trinity College.
On New Year’s Eve, the side streets of the city centre will become a hive of activity with street festivals including live entertainment, DJs, street theatre and circus acts to create a lively atmosphere in the build up to the countdown celebrations. Tickets for the NYE Countdown Concert (over 18’s only) which runs from 9pm – 12.30am are nominally priced at €10 and are on sale on the festival website (www.nyedublin.ie) and Ticketmaster (€10 plus service charge) or by phoning Ticketmaster on 0818 719 300. A percentage of tickets sales will be given to support Focus Ireland, a national housing and homeless charity.
Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Andrew Montague has welcomed the event and said there is a need for an organised festival in Dublin for New Year. “I have seen the programme which is very extensive and I am very pleased that there is a focus on family events. I encourage people to come to town and celebrate the New Year.”
Culch has got our mitts on 2 pairs of tickets to give away. To enter, just leave a comment below and tell us the name of the song traditionally sang at midnight on New Years. Entries close next Friday 16th at 4.45pm.
