Musiclover’s App: WholeWorldBand
If you’re a musician or a vocalist and you’re heading down to the RDS at the weekend for The Music Show then we’ve just heard about a really cool thing that you’ll want to get in on. The WholeWorldBand app will be on-hand accepting contributions to tracks by Cathy Davey, Gemma Hayes and Liam O’Maonlai.
The app, which launches in a couple of weeks, allows users to originate a track, add themselves to a performance by a well-known artist or band by playing along with them, or even substitute themselves in for any member of a band. WholeWorldBand also allows musicians to record and film while playing or sing along to any track on the menu using the mic and camera on their iPhone or iPad and upload the result to Facebook or YouTube.
Using WholeWorldBand, musicians will be able to upload their own original tracks and earn money when other users download and share them.
But if you’re not quite ready to go that far yet, then you could contribute to tracks by Cathy Davey, Gemma Hayes and Liam O’Maonlai over the weekend. Davey has recorded an acoustic version of ‘Little Red’ and wants attendees at The Music Show to contribute performances to make up her band, while Hayes has recorded an unplugged version of ‘Keep Running’ and wants lots of new instruments added in to really “push the rhythm”. Liam O’Maonlai recorded ‘Everlasting’ for the app, a single-voice and piano set-up, and wants vocalists to contribute to the track at The Music Show to create a big gospel-style chorus.
A limited number of attendees will be able to take part so early arrival is advised and there’ll be a bit of rehearsing with Kevin Godley, formerly of 10cc and one of the men behind the app, but Musicmaker will be providing backline for the weekend so nobody needs to haul their kit down to the RDS.
Other upcoming collaborating artists on the app will include The Edge (U2), Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones) and Gavin Friday, Richie Buckley, Geoff French (The Brilliant Things), Gar Byrne (Riptide Movement) and Callum McAdam & Joe Leech (Bipolar Empire).
Sounds a bit cool?
It’ll be open to everyone when it launches in a few weeks but meantime here’s Cathy Davey’s track to get you thinking…
The Music Show takes place in the RDS on February 24th and 25th and tickets are available here.
