Competition Closed: The Iveagh Garden Concerts with Rufus, Mike and Lisa

Well, this lot almost slipped past my radar. How did that happen? Did you know that there are three frickin’ awesome gigs lined up for The Iveagh Gardens next week? Wanna win some tickets to see Rufus Wainwright, The Waterboys or Lisa Hannigan? Then keep reading…

Rufus Wainwright begins the Iveagh Gardens Nights on Wednesday evening. I have been a huge fan of Wainwright since I first heard his version of Hallelujah for the Shrek soundtrack. Now, I know purists will scoff at me for saying that, but I’ve since dived into his full back catalogue. In fact, his newest album, Out of the Game is fantastic.

It will be an evening of stories, drama, humour and some brilliant music. He kicks off at 9pm on Wednesday 18th July with support from Krystle Warren. Tickets €44.05 (a strange number) including booking fee are available from Ticketmaster.

2009_07_16 00011 Mike Scott InterviewMike Scott’s Waterboys hit the Gardens on Friday 20th. I met and chatted with Mike a few years back and I can honestly say he’s a gentleman. I love his music - it’ll be a mix of the well-loved classics and brand new material. Tickets are just €44.00 including booking fee and available from Ticketmaster. The gig starts at 7pm and support on the night is from the hauntingly original folk harmony ensemble The Unthanks and Waterford songstress Katie Kim.

The final one in the run is a serious treat. The wonderful, beautiful, genius Lisa Hannigan will be in the Iveagh Gardens on Saturday July 21 st, headed up by Ireland’s leading light at home and abroad, Lisa Hannigan. But it’s not just her; the wonderful, beautiful, genius (yes, I know I need some new adjectives) Cathy Davey will be there too. That’ll be some night. Gates open at 4pm and there is additional support from Other Lives and CHAMPS. Tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster at €35.

Competition NOW CLOSED

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS: Neil, Elly and Sarah who will be notified by email.

Sadly, I can only make it along to Rufus. Unfortunately, I’ll be in London for The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX over the weekend when The Waterboys, Lisa Hannigan and Cathy Davey are performing. Poor me!

But, you now have the chance to win a pair of tickets to one of these great Iveagh Gardens Nights. Just drop a comment below telling me which act you’d most like to see - Rufus Wainwright on Wednesday, The Waterboys on Friday or Lisa and Cathy on Saturday. You can only will one pair of tickets and the winners will be selected on Monday morning.

Notes:

Please be aware of the different start times for each of the gigs.

Rufus Wainwright, Wednesday 18th July @ 9pm
The Waterboys, Friday 20th July @ 7pm
Lisa Hannigan/Cathy Davey, Saturday 21st July @ 4pm

I would most like to see Rufus Wainwright! I had a ticket for him a few years ago in Dublin, my friend flew in especially from London! Anyway! The night before the gig I was moving some plants in the garden and stuck my face full force into a rose bush (I know! Beggars belief) anyway! resulted in a tear in my cornea, I had had laser surgery on my eyes less than a week before and they were already streaming! Needless to say, I couldn’t attend the concert and was gutted! So now I have 20/20 vision and will be able to see Rufus properly in all his glory!!!

    • Darren Byrne says:

Sharon, I’m genuinely sorry you didn’t win. The winners were selected at random, but I was rooting for you. That’s such a sad story. Sowwy! 🙁
