0Ukulele Hooley Festival 2013
Ireland’s 4th International Ukulele Hooley takes place this weekend (24th/25th August) in Dun Laoghaire. We were there for the first one in Temple Bar and it’s just gotten better with age. So what’s on? The Ukulele Hooley Bus Busk gets under way from The Pavilion at 3.30pm on Saturday and will feature a bus full of players stop off at various places along the south Dublin coast to place impromptu gigs. Grab your ukulele and join ’em. Later in the evening there’s an Open Mic Night from 8pm to 10pm at Pavilion Quarter. It’s a chance for aspiring ukulele performers to contact their ‘inner uke’ and have the opportunity to perform in front of a public audience. There are also workshops running across the weekend so if you’d like to start or learn more complex tunes, you can check out the list here.
The main event takes place on Sunday with the Ukulele Hooley Concert in the People’s Park starting at 12 noon and running non-stop until 9pm. Featuring some of the best and most talented ukulele players and groups from Ireland and around the world in an 8 hour-long concert (there’s a full list here). Last year over 5,000 people came down to watch, dance, play ukulele and join in the fun at the People’s Park Dun Laoghaire so get on it this weekend. Here’s Gus & Fin with Cadillac to get you in the mood:
