Spirit of Folk Festival Unveils Line-up and a very unique Launch!
Kíla have been announced as headliners of this year’s Spirit of Folk Festival, set to take place in the idyllic surroundings of Dunderry Park, Co Meath in September.
After a slight Glasto style hiatus, the festival is back with a vengeance this year and will take place from September 19 to 21.
Spirit of Folk 2014 will see musicians and storytellers from all over Ireland and the UK come together for a weekend sprinkled with magic.
This year’s festival will feature: Kíla, hailed as one of Ireland’s most innovative and exciting bands; Tupelo, voted best Folk Act at the Hot Press Reader’s Poll 2013; Dan Walsh, Touted as one of the finest banjo players in the UK; In Their Thousands, a four-piece outfit comprising alt-country, folk & rock; Dan Amor, Hailing from North Wales, a formidable talent making his way to Ireland for the first time; The Emerald Armada, an energetic festival-favorite and Belfast born and bred.
As well as great musicians there will be lots of alternative events that will complement the music and these include storytelling and poetry reading by Pat Speight, Eddie Lenihan, Aideen Mc Brideas well as talks and workshops on ancient druidism and shamanism; African song and dance workshops; yoga; ancient astronomy and bushcraft.
Says Festival Director, Natasha of this year’s SOF:
After a year out from the weekend festival we are delighted to return with a programme of events certain to please avid festival goers and those who like something more intimate and a little bit different.
For those who have attended the festival in previous years, they can attest to the fact that Dunderry is a magical place and a wonderful spot for a boutique festival like SOF.
Every year I am so happy when people come up to me at the end and say that we created a magical space for them.
This year I’m looking forward to the outdoor pursuits particularly the bushcraft, archery and falconry as well as our midnight Sculpture burning which is a spectacular ending to an amazing couple of days.
The lineup is also one of our best yet!.
