I Pledge Allegiance to…Duke Special

Alternative title: The Music Industry is Dead, Long Live Music

Duke Special announces his new venture today via PLEDGE MUSIC. Essentially, as he now no longer has a record label, he is going down the DIY route to produce and release his albums. To help raise funds, he is offering all sorts of unusual Duke artefacts and experiences for which fans can pledge varying amounts. It’s an interesting idea. Duke has a lot of devoted fans who would love the opportunity to own a handwritten Duke Special poem, to write a song with Duke or even to have dinner with him. All of these are being made possible.

Some of the funds raised will go towards building a team of promotional people to work on the new Duke releases at press, radio, TV and online. In addition, some of the money raised will go to Duke’s charity of choice – Depaul Ireland. Depaul Ireland is a fresh and dynamic cross-border charity which offers homeless and disadvantaged people the opportunity to fulfill their potential and move towards an independent and positive future.

Plans are also afoot for some extravagant concerts, the cost of which exceeds the income we’ll receive, so further funding will help realise these tours which are due to take place in May and June 2010. The project also offers fans the opportunity to participate in the emergence of the three new Duke Special releases via bonus music, demos, rough mixes, live tracks, videos, tour diaries and photographs from the road.

I have already pledged money for the Pledgers Only Gig and Q+A in Dublin where he will perform tracks from all three albums. What takes your fancy? If you have a spare $1,500, you can get a Private Duke Special gig. Nice! For more info, check out Pledge Music or DukeSpecial.com.
