Jennifer Garner and Butter. No, not as exciting as you might think, but mildly interesting all the same - she’s starring in a political satire which follows a young orphan adopted by a couple in the American Midwest who discovers she has a hidden talent. She’s a genius at carving sculptures from butter and must compete with the wife of her town’s former carving champion in the annual competition. According to the writer, Jason Micallef, he “wanted to do a political satire and…was looking for some venue that people take very seriously but is also ridiculous - like politics - but at the same time is really visual.”
- JJ Abrahms’ new comedy (he produces, while Roger Michell directs) has an impressive cast list. Morning Glory has Jeff Goldblum as the boss of an aspiring news producer, Rachel McAdams, who must save a failing morning TV show by keeping in check the egos of anchors Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford.
- And speaking of JJ Abrahms, Paramount screened some exclusive footage of the new Star Trek movie yesterday, before putting on Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan. Only it was all a ruse. Cinemagoers in Austin actually became the first group to see the finished version of Abrahm’s Star Trek. Damn cool! Check out /Film for early Twitter reactions.
- The sad truth is that all these remakes make financial sense. Reuters has an interesting article on remakes in Hollywood.
“I now sit down and scroll though IMDb looking for movies, and I spend time researching rights to old TV shows,” one studio executive said resignedly. “That’s where I spend more of my development time.”
Cameron Diaz and James Marsden play a suburban couple with a young child who receive an anonymous gift - a simple wooden box, that promises to deliver its owner $1 million with the press of a button. However, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world - someone they don’t know. The Box by Richard Kelly (of Donnie Darko) promises to be a startling moral drama which examines the true nature of their humanity.
- I have been avoiding the leaked copy of Wolverine. I will wait to catch it in the cinema. Fox News columnist Roger Friedman did not want to wait however and even reviewed the movie on FoxMovies.com. Both the review and the reviewer have now been removed. Yep - he was let go as a result. Not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, he’s a film reviewer who just reviewed a film. On the other, it was a pirated early print of the film. He did break the law…kinda…
- Despite the fact that McG claimed Terminator Salvation would not be given the tame PG-13 rating, promotional posters for the movie in Pizza Hut have been branded with the PG-13 stamp. It does not bode well for the film’s integrity.
- Further Nightmare on Elm Street news: Johnny Depp’s role from the original will be played by Kyle Gallner in the update. No, I’ve never heard of him either. Apparently he was in Veronica Mars.
- A couple of big movies have started filming this week. Iron Man 2 kicked off - very exciting. Also, Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham have started shooting on The Expendables. Follow Jon Favreau’s tweets here and the publicist for The Expendables, Sheryl Main is tweeting here. Sly might log in occasionally too: “Sly here - I had to chase a seaplane along a pier and jump inside which was like running headlong into hurricane Katrina”.
- Hunter Prey centers around a group of elite intergalactic commandos that have crash-landed on a harsh and unknown planet while transporting an alien prisoner. Rockin’ -
Wolverine is crap, don’t waste your money.
Kyle Gallner was creepy in VM. Anything VM is good to me though.
Aw Voodoo. Every time you download a film a fairy dies…
Oh pluh——-ease.
I’d definitely press the button.
Kaaa-ching!

@Sinead I did wonder if someone would go down that road.
