Most Monday nights involve a lot of students, probably already drunk/drinking, heading out into town. This Monday was no different, just in a much much greater amount. Now what with all the chatter of buses striking, labour relations, and all this other malarkey, Dublin Bus aren’t the most favourable method of transport these days. But they can provide some fun situations.
Ballymun Road, DCU stop. As I arrive a 19a is unfortunately stuck there taking on a load of drunken students. I arrive while it is still taking the last of them on, but decide to let it go. I can’t stand being on buses filled with students…
Over the next few minutes, more students arrive. In the horizon (aka seeing down as far as the road curves at the church) a 4a is coming. Already quite full with students from the previous stop, it makes it’s way down to the DCU stop, and proceeds to take on all the other drunken students here.
Round the corner from Wadelai Park sneaks an almost empty 11, picks up the four or so sane people of us also waiting there, including myself, and away we flee before any party animals notice
Although we did pick up a few drunks on the Drumcondra Road, it’s still better than being on a bus full of them all the way into town. Plus, it going through Phibsborough and having to double back essentially at some point is a much worse choice… Gotta love playing the strategy card with the buses!
PS. On Mondays not all drunks are always students, and not all students are drunks. But 95% of students and drunks on the buses Monday night are. So, if you’re part of the other 5%, which includes me, sorry for having to go by the stereotype, but it does make for a fun tale
