Movie News 19/03/09

So, because I was in recovery mode for much of yesterday I couldn’t find time to post the Movie News. Sorry…

  • Natasha Richardson Firstly, spare a thought for the family of Natasha Richardson today. Natasha, aged 45, passed away last night as a result of injuries sustained in her skiing accident a few days ago. She leave behind her husband, Liam Neeson, two children, Michael and Daniel and is also survived by her mother Vanessa Redgrave.
  • Kevin Costner and Tommy Lee Jones are set to star in The Company Men, a drama about the impact that a corporate downsizing has on both its casualties and survivors. They join Ben Affleck, who plays a corporate hotshot whose fancy lifestyle vanishes after he gets laid off. Costner plays his brother-in-law, a drywall installer who gives him a construction job, while Jones plays a senior partner in the firm, a principled man who struggles with the greedy actions of his partners. Much as I despise Costner, this sounds intersting.
  • Did you watch BBC’s production Rome? No, me neither. It was canceled due to the high costs of the set, apparently, but now they’re turning it into a movie.
  • Oh dear - last year’s pointless sequel to the 80′s cult classic, The Lost Boys, has just been beaten for the Coke Zero Pointlessness Award. Lost Boys 3 will go into production shortly.
  • Freddie Prince Jr‘s latest rojecct which is destined to fail is ABC’s comedy pilot No Heroics. It revolves around a bunch of B-list superheroes who live among us. I’m bored already…
  • More censorship: The British Advertising Standards Authority have decided that Angelina Jolie is not Wanted on British screens. They have deemed the trailer for the DVD release of last years actioner Wanted to be unsuitable for television, as it “could be seen to condone violence by glorifying or glamorizing the use of guns“. Argh!! What do you think? Here’s the trailer:
