- Robin Williams is recovering well after heart surgery in Ohio. He’s only 57 - we can’t let him go just yet.
- Anne Hathaway is set to play Judy Garland both on Broadway and on screen in Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland. A good fit, I think.
- Three kids, seven summers and an obsession with Raiders of the Lost Ark - no, this is not the plot of a movie, but how a movie was made. The three friends made a shot by shot remake of the Indiana Jones movie over seven years and grew up in the process. Completed 14 years ago, it has only ever been seen as part of special screenings and charity events but it is due to go on full release this year. Here’s the trailer. Don’t judge it too harshly - it’s an amazing achievement:
- Another remake, The Taking of Pelham 123, is edging ever closer to release. Denzel Washington, John Travolta, John Turturro and James Gandolfini will grace our screens in July.
- Megan Fox is on the cover of the new Empire magazine. Yum!
- To mark the release of The Boat That Rocked, a comedy looking at the pirate radio stations of the 60’s. TodayFM are broadcasting from the Liffey all day Wednesday to mark the films release.
- They are planning on making a biopic of the life of Steve McQueen. Scratch that - they’re makjing two. It seems there are two rival projects in the works. One based on the biography by Marshall Terrill and one based on the memoirs of McQueen’s wife. I’ll be interested to see how this battle unfolds. Both are likely to follow McQueen’s development from childhood delinquent to the highest-paid actor in Hollywood and cover his obsession with motorcycles, his drug abuse, his affairs and his hard-fought battle with cancer, which took his life in at age 50.
