I blogged it over yonder but it’s worth repeating - the new video campaign for UK charity Women’s Aid stars Keira Knightley. It’s intense, vivid and not at all nice. Just like the reality, I suppose.
Women’s Aid Ireland, the domestic violence service can be found online here.
I got a cold chill of pins and needles down my head and back watching that. Very provoking.
And good to see it’s not stereotyped for once. no Council house and five kids in the corner. No bottle of booze sitting on the counter. Just raw reality.
I’m not a huge fan of Ms Knightley but i have to give her kudos for doing this. Anything that focuses attention on domestic violence (and this applies to violence against men too-something that’s not usually discussed as much) is a good thing.
Thanks a million for posting this Darragh. Domestic abuse is more prevalent than people think; and it feeds on silence and secrecy. If you or anyone you know is suffering at the hands of another-get help. It’s nothing to be ashamed about nor is it a reflection on you as a person. Break the cycle.
WOW pretty scary stuff eh?! All I know is that if that was ever done to me something wold be chopped off of someone whilst they were asleep. And I know damn well I’d get away with it!
See what I have to put up with?
I’m a victim.
