Oh, What a Lovely War!

Oh, What a Lovely War!Greystones Theatre is ‘doing a Radiohead’ and allowing you to choose what to pay for a night at the theatre.

Bruiser Theatre Group, who last year staged an excellent and very physical production of The Case of the Frightened Lady, are returning to Greystones for two nights with the satirical musical Oh, What a Lovely War! Originally staged in 1963, it is a satire on the First World War (and, by extension, war in general). The title comes from the song Oh! It’s a Lovely War, which is one of the numbers in the production.

Oh What A Lovely War is a moving, funny, lyrical evocation of the tragedy and pathos of the First World War; one of the most futile and ferocious conflicts in history. Armed with sketches, songs and stories, a cast of Pierrot clowns mix their sombre buffoonery with the bawdy, tough humour of the lads on the front line, to take you on an incredible journey across Europe: from the optimism of the British home front to the blood-soaked fields of Flanders. Along the way the story is marked by a fantastic collection of songs from the Great War - Pack Up Your Troubles, Keep The Home Fires Burning and It’s A Long Way To Tipperary. Oh What A Lovely War is a groundbreaking and stunning examination of a conflict that wiped out a whole generation of young men throughout Europe.

Tickets are generally €12.50 and are available on the door at Greystones Theatre, but the Theatre have decided to let you choose what you want to pay even if its nothing. Just print out this blog post and get in for whatever you choose. So if the Budget hit you hard yesterday and you have no money, there is still no excuse. Get your arses down tonight or tomorrow, Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th April. I’ll see you there tomorrow night.
