- How to bleed a franchise dry…the X-Men franchise has seen three movies go on release to accumulate somewhere in the region of $1,050,000,000 and this will only increase with next month’s Wolverine. The origin story of Magneto is also in the works and now it seems studio execs are trying to light a fire underneath X-Men:The First Class, the story of Charles Xavier’s first set of mutant students. I’m sure this will spark its own franchise spin. Overkill much?
- Richard Jenkins (the father from Six Feet Under) and Julia Roberts will star in Eat, Pray, Love, centering on a married woman who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after realizing that she’s not living the life she wants.
- The lovely Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Heroes and the voice of Gossip Girl) has been cast in Disney’s You Again, as a girl who is shocked to find out her brother is marrying the very girl who made her life a living hell in school.
- It seems movie producers will pull out any trick to gain column inches for their movies. There’s a lot of hoopla over the fact that the release of Harry Potter 6 (everyone has given up on the subtitles at this stage) has been moved up six two days. Who cares? It’s still not until July.
- Elisabeth Moss (from TV’s MadMen), Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs and Rose Byrne (from David Tennant’s Casanova) have joined the cast of the Forgetting Sarah Marshall spin-off Get Him to the Greek, which follows a record company intern who is assigned the job of bringing the out-of-control rock star Russell Brand, reprising his role from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, to a gig at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater.
- One further sign the apocalypse is coming: Miley Cyrus, the 16 year old pop princess has just released her new film, Hannah Montana: The Movie, and it’s doing phenomenal business - double Disney’s expectations on the opening weekend. Prepare for Armageddon people.
- More remake news: Breck Eisner (director of 2005′s Sahara) is taking on both Flash Gordon and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Neither project interests me to be honest.
- Lottie has just finished reading Aravind Adiga’s The White Tiger and now I hear it is to be made into a film. Hot on the heels of another novel based in India, Slumdog Millionaire, The White Tiger is likely to provide a darker message than Danny Boyle’s Oscar winner.
- Academy Award Nominee Elizabeth Shue has just signed on for new horror thingy Pirahna 3D. Oh, how they fall.
- I went to see the beautiful Let the Right One In again last night and saw a trailer for State of Play. Apart from Russell Crowe (whom I despise), it looks quite good:
Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Heroes and the voice of Gossip Girl)
I am disgusted that you failed to mention Veronica Mars . For SHAME.
hahaha Voodoo, I *knew* there was something else, and I couldn’t put my finger on it despite it being her massive starting off point! Loved her in Heroes though. Damn you Sylar.
I’m looking forward to seeing Le Potter but it is annoying that we could have already seen it in November. I suppose it bridges the gap between the next one for the super fans.
You’ve just revealed a Gossip Girl secret!
I don’t hate Russel Brand as much as I used to. This perturbs me.
Confession: I’ve never seen any of Veronica Mars.
I’m also upset at the exclusion of the brilliant Veronica Mars from Ms Bell’s past work. You should watch it immediately.
Initially I read Breck Eisner’s next project as Flash Gordon and The Creature from the Black Lagoon, now that I would go see
Darren : FOR SHAME
Harry Potter in July will mess my internal movie metronome considerably….
Harry Potter HAS to be in winter, its a winter movie… Its dark and cold…
July is just not good enough!
Rant.STOP.
The X-Men franchise is certainly heading for overkill territory, but who cares, we will all line up at our local multiplex to go and see each of them when they are released anyways…
…and is harry potter 6 number 6 out of 7 or is there 8? I cant remember anymore, they have all merged into one
Miley Sinus is still 16? Shame.
HP moved up six days? Two days according to my googling. July is still too far away! I love Russell Brand. That is all.
@Mark Now that’s a film I’d be interested in seeing.
@Voodoo Forgive me. I’ll buy the DVDs.
@Elf No - rant away. It’s a Christmas movie. Or, at least, it should be.
@Dave Yeah, if they keep making X-Men, I’ll keep watching. As for HP, there’s 7 books, but 8 films. Kerching, kerching.
@Ciara Shame? Why? What do you want to do to her?
@Kitty Concise and accurate. I read six somewhere, but two seems correct.
It’s cheapish on play.com.
