Tuesday Tune - Elton John’s Tiny Dancer

Okay, I’m aware I forgot to post the Tuesday Tune last week. Well, it was a busy Tuesday. We had film posts and music posts and random stuff too. So, instead I want to talk about Elton John’s Tiny Dancer today (or this evening, at least). Although I was aware of the song when I was younger, I, like many, only really began to appreciate Tiny Dancer when it featured in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. In one of the greatest scenes in modern filmmaking, the emotionally battered and bruised rock band listen to and begin to sing along with the lyrics of Tiny Dancer in a beautiful and touching scene that united them in music though their personal differences might be pulling them apart. Beyonce Single Ladies - another day, another “flash mob” video

So London’s Picadilly Circus, 100 leggy dancers and a bit of Beyoncé for you. I think we need to start redefining “flash mob“. This - no matter how visually appealing - isn’t really flash mob, is it? It’s well choreographed marketing but lacks the whole “Ah anyone can show up and join in” feel. Still though, if you liked it, you shoulda put a ring on it…

Movie News 20/04/09

I missed yesterday’s so, this is a long one. Before you do anything else though, go read Rick’s review of Star Trek. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers, but it does whet the appetite.
