Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don’t forget your booties ’cause it’s cooooold out there today.

  • Rooney MaraThe latest bit of Nightmare on Elm Street News is that they’ve found a new Nancy. Replacing Heather Langenkamp from the original will be the little known actress Rooney Mara (pictured). Incidentally, her sister Kate Mara has just been cast in Iron Man 2. No prizes for guessing who the favourite daughter is in that household.
  • James Marsden, in his neverending search for a winning role, will star in the remake of Straw Dogs, Sam Peckinpah’s 1971 Oscar nominated thriller. Marsden will take over from the original’s Dustin Hoffman. After his excellent turn in Enchanted, my fingers are constantly crossed that Marsden will find a role that he can properly get his pearly white teeth into.
  • C’mere, would you believe it’s now 25 years since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first graced our little telly boxes? I feel damn old. After the shocking disappointment of the animated 2007 TMNT, I welcome the news that they are to make a new live action Turtles movie.
  • Mel GibsonHas Mel Gibson stepped back from the precipice of crazy long enough to make a decent entertaining movie? Perhaps. In his new film, The Edge of Darkness, Gibson plays a veteran cop whose only grown-up child is murdered on the steps of his home. He then unearths his daughter’s secret life and discovers a world of government cover-ups. Could be interesting.
  • Audrey Tautou’s new movie, Coco Before Chanel, has just opened to rave reviews in France. Charting the early years of the fashion revolutionary Chanel, it’s unlikely to hit our screens until late this year. Check out the trailer (en français):

  2. Darren Byrne says:

@Niamh I could only catch small bits of it. I couldn’t find a subtitled version. Excited about seeing this though when it’s released here.

  3. Lottie says:

Let’s admit it, Marsden will always be a B-list actor.
