Network ABC is planning to renew “Scrubs” for a ninth season. Minus Zach Braff & show creater Bill Lawrence which is a huge downer on myself (and I’m sure many others) because the show is my favourite , always has been.
From left to right: Donald Faison as “Turk”; Judy Reyes as “Carla”; Neil Flynn as “Janitor”; Zach Braff as “JD”; Sarah Chalke as “Elliot”; Ken Jenkins as “Dr.Kelso”; John C. McGinley as “Dr.Cox”
If you have never seen Scrubs or somehow never heard about it, the show revolves around several employees who work in Sacred Heart Hospital. JD, played by Braff, encounters hilarious scenarios day-to-day with his friends and co-workers while providing a humourous narration of his life. Surreal vignettes in the form of daydreams add to its well-known slapstick and occasional random humour. The latest , Season 8 , is very different.
It’s newer characters are a breath of fresh air definitely but it isn’t hard to notice its lack of humour. That comical randomness that the show always presented. which I loved. It’s gone. Maybe it’s just a lack of creative input but its disappointing. I still like it however.
It is something which I, and the rest of the viewers, must get familiar with. Scrubs is turning more Greys Anatomy with a larger emphasis on drama. It is a great farewell season and plenty of characters from the last 7 seasons will appear one more time as confirmed already. I’m just so confused as to why they would go to all this trouble, making the season finale a huge spectacle, and then go and make another season. It wouldn’t be right.
Season 7 finale was a disappointment for me because at the time I was under the impression , as was everyone else, that it was the final season and it didn’t get a proper “sending off”. Then I heard the news that they would be making a final eighth season that would give it the ending it deserved. I waited in anticipation for the start of the new season and to be honest I wasn’t thrilled but I’m still enjoying it to some extent.
So what about you guys? Do you await One More Season? Or would you prefer to “pull the plug” on Scrubs?
The penultimate and concluding episodes of Scrubs Season 8 airs on ABC on May 5th & 6th respectively.
I agree, they killed scrubs and it’ll just get worse.
God this show got bad a few years ago, there is only so much Dr. Cox isms a girl can take.
@Voodoo: There’s a gag in there somewhere.
Scrubs without Braff and Lawrence is completely pointless. The audience will abandon the show and they’ll be cancelled after a few episodes. Mark my words.
They’ve well and truly jumped the shark. Every gag has been pillaged repeatedly.
Time to pull the plug on that particular life support machine me thinks!
@Anto well its not as if Lawrence writes and directs every episode.. Most of the regular writers for the show would still be staying on for another season if they did decide to renew. Still, it would be so odd without JD
Love the show, seen every episode, but for god sake pull the plug now before it gets ruined.
Loved the show but it started getting creaky after about season 5
And it really can’t survive without JD and Lawrence.
