It sounds like a simple question, but what is a television? Some of you are thinking “that box/flat yoke in the corner/on the wall” but that isn’t the full answer. At the moment. Legally. You see, I lived for years without a TV. I had broadband, and who needs a TV when you have YouTube. And now RTÉ and TV3 have their flash based players so you have even less need to buy a TV. Or a TV license. Unless they change the law… Oh they are changing the law. Spotted by Stochastic Geometry it appears that the 2008 Broadcasting Bill is (still) going through the final stages of the Oireachtas defines a “Television set” (on page 142, Part 9 line 37) “television set” means any electronic apparatus capable of receiving and exhibiting television broadcasting services broadcast for general reception (whether or not its use for that purpose is dependent … There’s more

I don’t think I need to add much to this. It made me smile. Even if it is an ad for a phone company. That is P!nk in the crowd. Brought to you by the same people behind the Liverpool Street Station dance. Update: could we do something like this in Ireland? What song would we sing? Answer here!
With nothing much else on that either myself or my friend hadn’t seen we chose to see ‘I Love You, Man!’ last Friday night - despite the fact that my friend had seen it before. I suppose that in itself was a good enough recommendation. A surprisingly funny movie, surprising since I’d seen no trailers so had no idea what to expect. The movie is definitely a bit of a no-brainer, leave the brain at the door and come right in. There were plenty of jokes for the lads and the ladies, it seemed to be a kind of chick flick for boys if that makes any sense-but more fun than the usual chick flick. The main focus of the story is on the main character, played by Paul Rudd, trying to find himself a man friend before his wedding to be his best man. What ensues are the misunderstandings, … There’s more
As we have done in previous weeks, the live blog will be running from 8.45 tonight. I’ll be off galavanting in Dundrum. Last week, Noorul was sent packing for being generally ineffective in all previous tasks and for not contributing at all in last week’s task. It was probably the right decision although the livebloggers were torn - I wanted to see Debra fired and I think everyone else wanted the lovely Ben to go home. This week, the potentials are heading up to Northern England where they will select two new innovative products to sell. Watch it on BBC One at 9pm tonight and don’t forget to join Culch.ie or the Elf In Amsterdam for the liveblogging.

Tom Mac Intyre’s Only an Apple has its world premiere at the Peacock Theatre in the Abbey. In this fantasy infused tale of a near-outgoing Taoiseach on the brink of being overthrown by Chief Whip McPhrunty, the Taoiseach sees an opportunity to dispatch his would-be dispatcher when he is visited by two mysterious women from days gone by - Queen Elizabeth the First and Grace O’Malley. The play begs the question, are these women sexual playthings or more sinister demons with ulterior motives?
The Eurovision is something very close to Ireland’s hearts seen as we have won it 7 times, but in recent years its lucky if we even qualify, and when we do we end up near the bottom, and having to qualify again the following year. Gone are the days that decent songs win, and the show being based on talent, but now its political voting and what not, you vote for us, we vote for you. I like many others still love the Eurovision, but with Terry Wogan being replaced by Graham Norton on the BBC, and Marty Whelan as usual on RTE, I think we’d all be better off commentating on it ourselves. The first of two semi-finals is on next Tuesday, with the other one being on Thursday, which is the one Ireland, and Sinéad Mulvey & Black Daisy take part in. Depending on what the interest is like … There’s more
