Title: Stone Cold Sober
Artist: Paloma Faith
Label: Epic
Release: June 15 2009
It sounds “big”. That was my immediate reaction. The next reaction was an urge to dance along. Yes folks, this song has a level of love with me, even with the few near nonsense lyrics and non-standard timing. Her voice has a touch of soul singer about it. OK, more than a touch, but she tempers the emotion with control. Or to put it differently, there is a heart set in the forties and fifties balance rather than Northern Soul rawness seen a lot nowadays.
And I love the song.
There are slightly different mixes of this song doing the rounds at the moment. The radio edit I’m listening to is shorter than the video below. The other interesting thing about the video is that the London art scene is a small town. Josh Weller (from yesterday) pops up in the crowd. Turns out that he’s co-written stuff with Ms. Faith before.
The CD single can be pre-ordered via Amazon.
Also really, really catchy. More please.
Can’t promise that.
My selection criteria is…
Have I completely missed the release date. If so, probably not for here.
Unsigned and no solid release date attached, then I won’t review it. Might e-mail a contact address for the track to see if they want it reviewed. (Had a band once beg me to remove a review, but the googlebot had slurped it across platforms by then) If yes, THEN I’ll listen.
If above or signed and a release date (or a forthcoming tour date in Ireland)
Is there a way to stream / embed the track, if not, skip.
Had this with one of the tracks on my short list for this week. “Battling Giants” by Ben’s Brother. Nice song, but as an album track there are no legal streams as of yet.
If the above are all satisfied… then I’ll review. I may not like it (its a review, not a “choice pick”) but the embedding / linking gives comments a chance to disagree.
Schedule filled to Thursday (doing something else for Friday) and have next weeks short list picked out.
So that’s a yes, then?
Yes. More tracks please. Irish artists if you have them.
what the hell is Josh Weller doing in this video?!?!?
Well Annia, I don’t know what he is doing in the video but…
Two London bases artists who co-write together, are around the same age and probably share the same scene.
I suspect all her friends ended up being in the party scene.
And Josh just stands out.
