Dirty Funk by Steve Appleton

Title: Dirty Funk
Artist: Steve Appleton
Label: RCA
Release: May 4 2009

I don’t know; its a “yes but…”. Dirty Funk is a bright and charming burst of a song. I want to like it. But there is a doubt in there somewhere.

I mean the kid is talented, and the handlers haven’t changed him much (His twitter stream shows that much). I think that underneath the styling there is a music geek dying to get out (I’ve been poking around the nets) and do good stuff. Or at least make listeners happy, with a little devilment in reserve.

The song is a blend of styles, and feels like its a young twenty-something wanna-party. Upbeat and laid back (it dosen’t make sense, head to the video and you’ll hear what I mean). Its a summer radio song, but I’m not sure I’ll want to hear it in the bleak midwinter.

So its a guarded yes.

The track can be bought via iTunes, HMV.co.uk and Amazon. Yup, the label is taking no chances here.
