Up & Coming: The Deadly Nighshades

The Deadly Nighshades, a six piece punk-indie-alternative band from Bray, Co.Wicklow are the latest Irish delight to catch my fancy.

Listening to their demo on the way home in rush hour traffic on Friday I found myself hitting reply so many times on “War” and “The Pilot’s Wife” I had made a forty minute journey having only listened to two songs. Both tracks are catchy and strong with great potential to be gracing the charts very soon.

Gaining momentum and recognition through live gigging the band are pretty busy these days. They are supporting Casio Kids in the Academy tomorrow night and can be seen as support in Eamon Doran’s on 28th May 2009 and 5th June in Bewley’s Cafe (supported by The Cujo Family - very interesting blue grass rock band).

They are also gigging in The Pint Bar on 13th June, Greystones Theatre on 3rd July and will be at the Knockastockan Festival in Wicklow on 24th July. For more info on their gigs check out their My Space page.

Praise for The Deadly Nightshades

“…a six piece band called ‘The Deadly Nightshades’ this band is really into their sound they have stage craft and a cult sound of their own.. Its got urban ska with a mix of pop melodies, the voice of Karen Hammond has a dramatic tone with a fantastic feel, the keyboard player Shane Cusack had this mad professor approach to the keys he was real passionate on his playing, sounding great, this is a band you got to see live, highly recommended….******”
