meet peter grogan...
- i used to grow plants under my bed. you woke up one morning and thought ‘i wanna be a radio presenter….i always loved music. and wished for that to be passed onto my children…. I listened to radio luxemburgs [the station of the stars as it was know]. I always had an interest in music and words…. but i am a school teacher by day. I played imagine to my pupils last week. Not one knew the song at all…. this is how i do my set for the show for the following thursday. I very seldom play chart material.
- when i was 24 i set up my own business. very different to the hobby. most people laughed. how did you go from i think i’d like to - to getting on air. I was a friend of clifford t ward….. I met him in ’73. and it was from here that i was asked would i do a radio programme. I did a special with him on Kiddeminster Hospital Radio. But my first regular slot was with Near FM and from there i was asked to do Dublin City Fm.
- have you ever thought - i’ve made it. this is *the* one. when? not exactly…. i’m not egotistically based but 103.2fm and the presentation i do on there and to make it grow… i think i’d like to have a large listenership but not have my show dictated. I have the show but i endeavour to make the listenership grow
- whats the best record vinyl you ever bought? home thoughts from abroad by clifford t ward I also like Gary Burr.
- what the most disappointing record you ever bought ? never had one…. but i did find an Irish made and produced cd for €21.99 I thoght that was disappointing. I didn’t buy it! I do like the old vinyl stores and finding that little oddity of surprise.
- How long does your show last? 1 hour. 11.30am to 12.30 every thursday. His show is called ‘it’s all in the song’
- when i was in south africa with the niall mellon township - i saw a guitar made from a castrol gtx can - whats the most unusual thing musically you’ve ever heard or seen? O’Connors Pub on a Friday night where you hear real music……. [laughs out loud]
- do you get free tickets for gigs & will you be going to electric picnic? very few. yes i will. [what....................?!!]
- do you think enda kenny is a spanner? i dont think he is the answer………. but then which one is. I like the quote that politicians are like nappies and should be changed regularly for the same reason

- whats your favourite t-shirt? i’ll google your you-tube if you yahoo my myspace
- so barrack obama calls you tomorrow…. do go ‘Jasus Barrack…. whats the cluckin’ story horsebox’ or do you go ‘shoite…. its flippin’ Obama on the flippin’ phone’……..? i’m preparing a programme at the moment i’ll have to call you back….[reads a text from his phone...] people said barrack wouldnt make it through his first 100 days and that it was more likely pigs would fly and sure enough swine flew [flu]

- i almost interviewed Aidan Bishop [the comedian] but he never replied to my email. You did. That makes you the most famous person i’ve ever interviewed. Would you recommend me to interview anyone else you know [famous]. Why? i would recommend you to sam baker from the US the great singer song writer. [i ask would you really ?? peter says sure why not]
- britney spears is going to play the 02 Dublin. Will you go? i wont I’m getting my hair done that evening…… i can understand and think its great that my pupils are so enthusiastic about music though. its all good.
- ben kenealy thinks *he’s all that* is he? ben kenealy says he with a quizical look…. i’d hate to alienate him as a listener
- dave from Dublins 98fm got me into trouble with ‘her indoors’ - she made him rhubarb crumble and I ate it. Would you like some pie? What advice would you give to dave? yes i’d love some….. there doesn’t even have to be custard on it…… don’t bite the hand that feeds you dave.
- after this interview - whats the best one you’ve ever done? i wouldnt/ couldnt get better than this…. coffee, chickens and attractive women! who could ask for more!
