First Look at Jackie Earle Haley as Young Freddie in Elm Street Remake

First look at oul slashy-fingers hisself from the upcoming remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street. The pic features Jackie Earle Haley as a younger, less-scarred and less knifey-fingered Freddy Krueger. So, obviously, it’s a flashback. Apparently the scene they were filming involves Krueger playing hide and seek with some kids around a playground, while sometimes holding gardening tools. Lovely! Many moons ago, I think I first embraced Placebo because a girl I liked was into the band. My dear, I thank you for the introduction. Over the years, I’ve revisited the band a number of times, each time discovering something new from their back catalogue. Battle for the Sun is their first studio album since 2006′s hit and miss Meds, which was also produced by Battle’s David Bottril. On first listen, the album washed over me. I heard much of the old Placebo and a hint of some more modern goth post-punk revival incarnations (such as My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco or even Fall Out Boy). With the exception of the title track, nothing immediately jumped out at me as classic or particularly memorable. Carlsberg Cat Laughs Comedy Festival 2009 - something old, something new

The others have left little or nothing for me to say about the upcoming Carlsberg Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny this weekend. I’m sure I’ll have a lot more to say during and after the event! Part of the fun of the gigs at the festival, I think, is that they put together several comedians in each show. So even if you are going to see a firm favourite of yours, you’re pretty likely to come across someone you hadn’t seen or maybe even heard of before at the same gig. So you get to dabble in different styles of comedy, maybe discover someone you really love. Gigs I’ll definitely be at over the weekend… Saturday in the Kilford Arms - Ross Noble, Derek Edwards, Jarlath Regan, Paddy Courtney. I’ve only seen Paddy and Jarlath before I think and although I know of Ross Noble, could pick him out … There’s more →
