Carlsberg Cat Laughs Comedy Festival 2009 - something old, something new

The others have left little or nothing for me to say about the upcoming Carlsberg Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny this weekend. I’m sure I’ll have a lot more to say during and after the event!

Part of the fun of the gigs at the festival, I think, is that they put together several comedians in each show. So even if you are going to see a firm favourite of yours, you’re pretty likely to come across someone you hadn’t seen or maybe even heard of before at the same gig. So you get to dabble in different styles of comedy, maybe discover someone you really love.

Gigs I’ll definitely be at over the weekend…

Saturday in the Kilford Arms - Ross Noble, Derek Edwards, Jarlath Regan, Paddy Courtney.

I’ve only seen Paddy and Jarlath before I think and although I know of Ross Noble, could pick him out of a crowd, I’m still not sure what his comedy is like-looking forward to finding out though!

Sunday in Kytelers - Rhod Gilbert, Jimeoin, John Mulaney, John Colleary.

I don’t know any of these guys stuff so this should be very interesting indeed.

Also on Sunday evening are Neil Delamere, Dave Gorman, Derek Edwards, Fred MacAulay all in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel, a lovely venue. Looks like I’ll be seeing Derek Edwards a second time…here’s hoping he’s good :)

It’s going to be a mad, hectic, busy, sunny, sweaty, fun-filled weekend of beer and laughter…and I can’t wait!

Incidentally, it is disturbing when you Google a picture of the Cat Laughs, in the first page of results I get these pictures. Scary.

Last year was my first time to go as well Jay but I had a brilliant time. There is a great atmosphere in Kilkenny during it, and you’ll spot loads of the comedians around town going for pints or coffee or whatever, everyone’s out enjoying it :)

Those pictures take me back! Didn’t head to the festival club this year, was well behaved and in bed early most nights though a right laugh catching up with everyone again.

Next year I reckon I’ll take a leaf out of ye’r book and buy up a weekend’s worth of tickets in advance, I was a man without a plan this time around.
