Philip Treacy: the Culch.ie interview

I have a confession. Before yesterday I knew very little about Philip Treacy. Image from ChicStories Friday afternoon I got an email from Cliodhna asking if one of us would do an interview. With certain other things on my mind, plus a full weekend at The Cat Laughs ahead, I resolved to ask someone who actually knows something about fashion, but between everything, didn’t get the chance. In addition, I was thinking “Is Culch.ie a place for an interview like this? Would anyone be interested in reading an interview with some guy who makes hats?” I didn’t know if I would be. How wrong was I? The weekend over, on my way to Dublin yesterday, navigational and scheduling problems struck - specifically we got lost thanks to the Offaly road network being signpost free and Philip Treacy was only in Dublin for the day, over to launch a new hat … There’s more

Olivia O’ Leary pays tribute to Seamus Heaney

I witnessed something lovely least night. Something rather special. At the opening event of the Dublin Writers Festival, poetry readings by Seamus Heaney, writer and broadcaster Olivia O’ Leary introduced someone she obviously likes, respects and admires. And boy, what an introduction. You can read it below:

The UK Apprentice - Week 11 - The Semi Final

It’s semi-final night on The UK Apprentice. Those who watch the show will know that the semi-final is like nothing the contestants have seen over the previous 10 weeks. It’s a gruelling, debasing, embarrassing and nerve-wracking interview with some of the UK’s most ruthless business men and women - colleagues of Sir Alan. Last week saw the departure of Howard for not being a risk taker. How he was let go in favour of Debra, James, Lorraine, Kate and Yasmina is bizarre. The remaining contestants have so far been through the mill in infomercials, at trade fairs, on the high street, built and sold gym equipment, sold Sir Alan’s breakfast cereal (will we ever forget Pantsman) and he even had them cleaning cars. So, join us to discuss the interviews at 9pm on BBCOne and on the liveblog from 8.45. Apprentice UK S05E11 - Semi Final Click Here to open … There’s more

Fight Like Apes - Something Global

Remember we posted about #shootlikeapes - where lots of Fight Like Apes fans went to Whelan’s to shoot the video for their new single, Something Global? Director, editor, maestro Eoghan Kidney has just released the final edit: You can watch the bigger version over here. Considering the amount of cameras, footage and formats that were shot in on the day, this is an extremely impressive piece of work. The cut between the phones and the cameras, the angles and the directions is so tight as to appear like that’s the way it was set up altogether. And sure, perhaps it was. Well done everyone - something to be very proud of!
