Stars from The Wire to present on RTE Lyric FM

This time of year, the papers are often full of articles complaining about RTE radio presenters who are off on their holidays and listeners being forced to put up with sub-par replacements.

Well, no offence to the great broadcaster John Kelly, who I know has many fans on this website, but his listeners might not miss him too much tomorrow as his slot on RTE Lyric FM is being presented by none other than Reg E. Cathey, star of TV show The Wire. He plays Norman Wilson in the smash hit US series but is currently treading the boards as “Red” in the Gaiety Theatre’s production of The Shawshank Redemption.

Reg E Cathey

The Wire is regarded by pretty much everyone as the best TV show of all time (and anyone who disagrees clearly never watched an episode).

Reg’s special guest on the show is his co-star from The Wire, actor Clarke Peters, who plays Detective Lester Freamon. He recently played Nelson Mandela in the Channel 4 film Endgame.

What you might not know about Reg is that he’s a sax player and he’s going to roll out tunes tomorrow from the likes of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman, plus plenty more surprises.

So if you’re a big fan of The Wire, enjoy some good music, or you simply just fancy hearing a few Hollywood stars present on RTE Lyric FM, tune in tomorrow (Friday June 12th) to The JK Ensemble at 2.30pm.

About Amanda Fennelly

I work for RTE 2fm as a researcher/contributor. You can hear me on The Colm & Jim-Jim Breakfast Show presenting sport two days a week (usually Mondays and Fridays) plus I also do movie reviews on Friday morning's show. I also look after the RTE 2fm Movies webpage and it's there you can check out my interviews with major movie stars/directors/writers. I'm from Kilkenny (the true home of hurling), support Spurs and am somewhat obsessed with American tv shows.

Oh so cool! I’m going out to buy myself a little radio for my office tomorrow - can’t rely on the website for it.
