It’s part of the Temple Bar Circus Festival but I think something as fantastic as this - something I’ve been waiting for for ages now - deserves its very own post. Ladies and gentlemen, they’re showing Moulin Rouge on Friday July 10 and Adventureland on Saturday 11 in Meeting House Square, and they’re both free events!
If you haven’t seen Moulin Rouge, this is an ideal opportunity. If you have, and liked it, you’ll want to go again. The Circus Festival organisers have arranged a spectacular spectacular evening from 9pm, which, if the weather holds, will be one of the experiences of the summer:
Roll up, roll up for a fantastic night of Moulin Rouge inspired entertainment! This outdoor event will kick off with an aerial show by the amazing Barren Carrousel from Northern Ireland, followed by a screening of Baz Luhrman’s Oscar winning movie Moulin Rouge (2001), the vibrant, wildly colourful story of star-crossed lovers Satine and Christine set in the bohemian paradise of the Moulin Rouge in Paris. Be greeted on arrival by the fabulous costumed ladies of Cirque du Caberet, who will be serving up fresh popcorn and candy floss!
8.30pm: gates open. 9pm: The Barren Carrousel—40 mins 10pm: Moulin Rouge - Baz Luhrmann—120 mins: Certification: 15
Can you tell I’m very excited? I love that film - I can probably recite it line for line now (especially the songs) so it’s probably best you don’t sit near me, especially if you haven’t seen it before…
The following night at 10pm there’s an exclusive preview screening of Adventureland, the new film from the director of Superbad.
It’s the summer of 1987, and James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg), an uptight recent college grad, can’t wait to embark on his dream tour of Europe. But when his parents (Wendie Malick and Jack Gilpin) announce they can no longer subsidise his trip, James has little choice but to take a lowly job at a local amusement park. Lucky for James, what should have been his worst summer ever turns into quite an adventure as he discovers love in the most unlikely place with his captivating co-worker Em (Kristen Stewart), and learns to loosen up.
Gates open at 9:30pm, Certification 16. Adventureland is on general release in cinemas throughout Ireland from September 11, 2009.
You must have tickets to go to either screening! You can collect them from the Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre or call (+353 1) 888 3610.
I repeat: A MASSIVE YES!
@Lottie you do know this is when we’re at Oxegen? Damn, why does all the good stuff happen at the same time!
@Sinead - Look. I cannot be expected to keep track of my own schedule. That’s why I have you!
Damn!
Adventureland!! Horay!
