  • The Goonies ReunionAfter being reunited for an Empire photoshoot last month, it looks like the Goonies are ready to reunite again - on the big screen. Frank Darabont has confirmed that they are sourcing a script and that everyone is on board - in principal at least. As far as I’m aware, nothing is signed sealed or delivered. So, with all the original Goonies grown up, the script is likely to centre on the next generation. Who (apart from the damn Fanning family) will play the Goonies‘ kids?
  • Ordinarily, I’d be all in favour of remaking good foreign language films - it brings new ideas to a wider audience and can even improve on films that lacked a big budget or a decent cast. However, I reeled in horror when I heard that Cloverfield director Matt Reeves will be brought in to Americanise Let the Right One In, one of the greatest horror tales and most beautiful love stories I’ve ever seen on screen. It will be called Let Me In and two 12 year old leads are being sought at present. I am in no way looking forward to this.
  • Almost as shocking is the confirmation that a remake of An American Werewolf in London is underway. Argh!!!
  • Gilliam is once again forging ahead with his cursed script The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Johnny Depp is unlikely to return to the project, so the ex-Python is on the search for a new lead man (his most recent lead, Heath Ledger, upped and died on him).
  • Annette Bening and Julianne Moore will play a same sex couple who’s kids go in search of their sperm donating dad, Mark Ruffalo, causing turmoil within the family in The Kids are All Right.
  • Harry Potter and the Half Blood PrinceBill Nighy, one of the few British actors who has yet to appear in a Harry Potter movie has finally been confirmed for Deathly Hallows. He is likely to play Rufus Scrimgeour, the veteran Auror.
  • Guy Pearse is set to join Katie Holmes in Guilermo del Toro’s remake of 1973′s Are You Afraid of the Dark. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Pearse, so it could be promising.
  • Kevin Smith’s new comedy, A Couple of Dicks, is running full steam ahead. Michelle Trachtenberg and the inevitable Jason Lee have now joined Smith’s cast of Seann William Scott, Adam Brody and Kevin Pollak. This is gonna be great.
  • And in weird news, it looks like Seth Rogen will be teaming up with Barbara Streisand for comedy Mother’s Curse. This will be the first time Streisand will be on screen since 2004′s Meet the Fockers (though I expect she’ll be back for The Little Fockers too).
  • Neve Campbell has said she will not be in the new Scream franchise. I previously mentioned that Courtney Cox and David Arquette were in talks to reprise their roles as Gale Weathers and Dewey in the sequel. When Wes Craven was recently asked about the project, he said that Bob Weinstein wants him to direct the film, but he wants to wait and see the screenplay before he decides. With Sidney out of the picture, it’s not looking good.

And some trailers for you, including Matt Damon’s latest:

  • The Informant looks brilliant:

  • Couples Retreat is Iron Man’s Jon Favreau’s new movie:

  • Alvin & The Chipmunks 2 - The Squeakuel is going to be awful:

  • Inglourious Basterds has a new international trailer:

  • And lastly, Assassination of a High School President - could this be the new Heathers?
