Watching the coverage of Glastonbury on the box recently it seemed that anything cool, edgy and fresh was fronted by a vibrant woman. Indeed most of the albums I’ve downloaded recently are acts led by women. La Roux, Florence and the Machine, Bat For Lashes, Lykke Li, The Gossip, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The list goes on.
Even the Irish music scene is embracing energetic, female fronted acts. Dirty Epics, Fight Like Apes, Ham Sandwich etc etc.
It certainly looks like we are immersed in a new musical order. So are we witnessing a shift in power and influence from the previously male dominated world of rock and alternative music?
