will the picnic be electric…?

aparently for the oldies...

aparently for the oldies...

All the ‘youngsters’ will be back from Oxygen soon and this place is on the verge of being bombarded with pics and stories of how great the line - up was. I agree. If the line up was for The Picnic…. it’d have been a sell-out already.

To the EP. I was there last year. I have my tickets booked for this year. Booked them a while ago now. But I’m mumbled in my mind at this moment… I dont’t know exactly why… ?

Maybe it’s the fact that last year we had The Gossip, Franz Ferdinand and The Sex Pistols… At one point Christy Moore played while The Stunning were literally brewing up a storm. I of course chose The Stunning. But this year [so far....] its a little more… how should I say it…to quote a friend of mine…

there’d be a lot of great acts for vicar street in it…

So far. Not my opinion. Just a quote. I read some Irish times article’s and almost got my hopes up after Jim Carroll mentioned Green Day *may* play there.

But it seems no matter what I read… I’m told that it’s more a festival, the arts, its the entire ensemble encapsulated. It’s a little more for the elder generation. Fair point. Possibly. And to an extent I agree re the generation. However age is but a mind set.

I love blur. I love The Sex Pistols more. But like coffee without water or on that note Elvis playing the O2 I want the great rock and roll swindle. I want a version of The Who, Page and Plant, Radiohead or The Pumpkins. I want electric-ity running up my spine and unfortunately Brian Wilson, The Wailers and ABC, whilst great acts… they just don’t do what John Lydon did when he walked back on stage last year.

great act. fact.

great act. fact.

I saw Liam O’ Maonlaí. The guy is a legend. A natural born talent. Sure he played the seanachaí part quite well. But truth be told, when it came to ‘I can see clearly now’ the shivers went right down my spine. Once again - he ain’t Hendrix. To contrast. That’s not offensive. It’s comparative.

I’m hoping there is more to come. I’m still hoping. ‘Those in the know’, that I know tell me that’s pretty much it.

My hopes are still high. Personally. I want more. I’m guessing there’s more. I’m hoping there’s more.

Maybe the EP lads are waiting until after Oxygen is complete to make the big announcements? That’d make sense…. wouldn’t it?

No matter what… I will love it. I will embrace it. I will. I’m not trying to take away from it….I’m just hoping there’s that extra free toy in the bottom of the cornflakes box…. At this moment I’m hopng for it anyway.

I kind of agree, I’m 18 and i like quite a lot of the acts at EP but there isn’t any thing thats got me salavating (I’m not sure if that is relevant) except Fleet Foxes, when I heard the Green Day rumour I was really excited plus that means I would get to see em twice in under 2 months!
    Anyway

    paddy

ditto mate. relevant it is. or shall i say apt description. and a fair point.

    It does kinda need one…?

  3. Do you know what gets my goat? ‘age appropriate music’ as if once you reach a certain age, you don’t listen to the radio, watch any TV or have teenage children/twenty-year old friends to educate you. I’d rather watch Lily Allen, Lady Gaga and The Script than The Sex Pistols, Fleetwood Mac (kidding right?) Grace Jones or even The Pet Shop Boys.

peter - less of the negative talk. It’s gonna be great this year cause I’ll be there!

Emerging writer - happens to the best of us at some point.
