Ukulele Hooley 2009

ukulelehooleyA ukulele expert I am not. I know they’re small guitars and that girl from Scrubs plays one but beyond that I’d be stuck. However I am hoping to learn more at Ireland’s first International Ukulele Festival, Ukulele Hooley. It’s on the 15th/16th August at Meeting House Square in Temple Bar.

As the official site says: “Bring out your inner uke and join us for a great weekend in the company of some of the best ukulele performers around such as Ukulelezaza, The Uke Box, Peter Delaney, Gus & Fin, Winin Boys, Vertigo Smyth, Steven Sproat, The Ukuhooleys and more.”

There’s beginners workshops, ukulele busking, an open mic session, stalls where you can pick up your own. Tickets are €15 for the Sunday and include a beginner’s workshop. Two workshops take place on Saturday (Intermediate level Rock & Roll and Blues with Shay Bagnall and Right-hand techniques with Ukulelezaza) are €10 each. Check out Gus and Fin rocking out with the Ramone’s ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’:
