Hi Culchies we’ve been doing Movie News for awhile now… The idea of a Music News column too sprung to mind and I’d love to get the ball rolling!
ο Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ last album Stadium Arcadium was released back in 2006 and recently speculation had begun that the band had split but drummer Chad Smith confirmed that a return to song-writing was in the works and that they hope to get in the studio recording their tenth studio album this autumn. After the 28 songs released on Stadium Arcadium, I hope the new album is kept short enough. It’s hard to get into an album that long. I always felt that 28 songs on an album was a slight bit overkill.
ο Ex-Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows has joined We Are Scientists as what he refers to as “an honorary member”. He spoke out to NME.com recently and stated he has been working with the band on their third studio album and will tour live with them aswell. I’m a fan of both bands and Burrows is a great asset for the Scientists to have…
ο Dave Grohl lately has come out with the news of a “super-group” including himself, Queen’s Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, and Zepplin’s John Paul Jones. There is word going around that they have confirmed the title and release date of the debut album from videos on Youtube. Of course taking info from Youtube videos for granted can sometimes be an ill-fated decision but if one were to whet one’s appetite, Never Deserved The Future will be released on October 23rd. Nonetheless, I’m still very eager to see this super-group. I think most music fans will agree that the band line-up looks fiction-esque but at that its a creative genius. It seems almost too good to be true!
ο The legend that is Bob Dylan is apparently releasing a Christmas album later this year. It is said to include renditions of O Little Town Of Bethlehem, Here Comes Santa Claus and I’ll Be Home For Christmas but not yet confirmed are new compositions. Still, the man has got to be pulling these songs out of some magic pot at this point…
ο The Prodigy have confirmed Dublin & Belfast dates for the “Invaders Must Die Tour”. The Odyssey on Thursday 17th December and Dublin’s 02 the following night. I caught their set from Glastonbury 09 on the telly and even though I wouldn’t be the biggest Prodigy fan, they do put on a hell of a show..
ο One of my personal favourite acoustic artists, Wallis Bird is aiming for a big comeback with her sophomore album “New Boots”. The whole uniqueness of her - her playing style, totally unparalleled voice, and that kinda poppy personality she possesses really makes her stand out. The new album is said to stem from key moments of Bird’s life - epiphanies along with personal highs and lows, relationships and splits. Essentially the songs are full of emotive lyricism and of course Bird’s kind of funky acoustic playing. It sounds like a steller album but of course we will have to wait until September 7th and each to their own aswell… The new single titled “To My Bones” is released on the 31st August and with her playing the upcoming V Festival on August 22/23 , there’s a chance she will play some new material so definitely keep an eye out there…
ο Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler broke his shoulder after a fall while performing on stage in South Dakota. Tyler fell off the stage breaking his shoulder, and also requiring stitches in his head and back. The show was immediately stopped and he was airlifted to hospital. As a result of the fall, the band’s tour of Western Canada has been posponed. At least the Bat Cave is alright…
ο Underline The Sky & The Last Republic have earned the spots for opening this year’s V Festival. Both bands won this year’s Road To V contest. Top artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Biffy Clyro, Elbow, MGMT, Snow Patrol, Oasis, and The Killers are among the abundance of talent playing this year festival. As I mentioned above, the festival this year takes place on August 22/23 at sites in Chelmsford & Staffordshire.
ο Guitar icon Slash has told fans that the hunt for a new Velvet Revolver frontman is still ongoing. He also confirmed that it isn’t likely we will hear new material until after Summer 2010 which is a major letdown. Slash is at work on a solo project at the moment and hopes to start recording soon and start touring next March or April.
