If there’s one Irish band that deserves success by dint of sheer enthusiasm, energy, great sounds and a mischievous sense of fun, it’s HOGAN.
I’ve had their single ‘Jealousy‘ playing in the kitchen for a good while now. Reminiscent a tiny bit of McFly, a small bit of Busted and a huge amount of their own infectious, get-the-body-moving pop - though I’d hate to even label it as that. It’s just a great song with good, memorable lyrics. If it’s a reflection on the new album, I’m definitely buying it.
And so I decided to find out more about them.
Four lads from Tullamore, Co Offaly, fronted by singer songwriter Mark Hogan, here’s one group who refuse to be pigenoholed into any sort of musical genre, preferring instead to find a sound that they like and give it their best shot.
They’ve done a lot of gigging all over the country, including Castlepalooza, Spraoi Fest, Whelan’s, Vicar Street and the RDS, sharing the stage with bands like Delerentos, The Coronas, Republic of Loose, The Saw Doctors and The Blizzards to name but a few.
Already being praised by the critics, including i105107′s Tommy and Hector, the Sunday World’s Eddie Rowley, Hotpress and others, their incredibly energetic live performances are fast becoming recommended as “not to be missed” gigs.
I sat down with Mark and drummer Ronan Nolan recently to find out more about the band, which also includes guitarist Wayne Brereton and bass guitarist Johnny Nolan to find out more. Firstly the lads gave us a performance of their current single Jealousy:
Tis a great tune! Now on to the interview. Discussed was the vanity of naming the band after Mark, the new single PS U R Crazy, hugging Dave Grohl, having super babies with Will Smith, Mark’s love for Wallis Bird, gigging around the country, the music shop in Tullamore and more.
You’ll find HOGAN on twitter at @Hoganband, on bebo over at Hogan-band and over on MySpace.com/HoganMark. I really hope these guys do well - they certainly deserve to.
Thanks to Niamh for filming, to Le Cirk for the venue, to Mark and Ronan for a very fun interview and to Good Seed PR for arranging. You all rock. (Not as much as HOGAN do though )
Nice! Been following Mark for a few years
The guys were great. And Jealousy will be in my head for the rest of the day now, it is just one of those songs that gets into your head. Just as well I like it lots
