Return of The Swell Season

It was one of the best gigs of last year for me - The Swell Season in The Olympia. Lottie, Anthony McG and me arrived just before the support act came on stage. There was a bit too long of a delay between the excellent Hare’s Corner departing and Swell Season taking to the stage, which quietened the crowd a little. Hansard et al didn’t get the rapturous greeting they deserved. Indeed, the first few songs, which were sweet and melodic, were met with applause and some polite whoops. But when they played their Oscar winning song, Falling Slowly, the mood turned and it became a night to remember. Falling Slowly was delivered with such passion and gusto that it was hard not to be drawn into the performance. From that point on, they had us in the palms of their hands.

Were you ever told not to paint with your fingers?

This possibly one of the most amazing art pieces I’ve ever seen in my life. Artis that funny thing that means so so much and means nothing all at once. People will look up to the paint splatterers but down on the street artists, up to those who have been to art college but down on those who have been drawing for years and years. Up tho those on TV but down on those who have sold art to fans and friends and neighbours for years. It’s a funny one. Equally too, we look at those who queue for hours for shows like Britain’s Got Talent. What, other than tabloid headlines and 15 felleting minutes of fame could they offer, especially to the art world? That video is for a testament to all those people, like me, who don’t know what art is but know what they like. The next … There’s more

Finding out about Luán Parle - an exclusive interview

One of the great things about arranging all these interviews is that I get to meet some extremely talented and interesting people. One of the most interesting and talented musicians I had the pleasure of chatting to recently has been singer songwriter from Wicklow, Luán Parle. You know what? She’s easily as pretty as that in real life.

smithfield festival ’09 reviewed

First up I was at the smithfield festival ’09 to create a garden. And the garden was pretty cool - not bad if I don’t say so myself. Whilst I was there…. and in between all of that garden talk… I did take the time to talk to the people who came to Smithfield, the people who live and work there… and also to meet the acts that turned up. The entire weekend was amazing. Note: this was also a free event. There was literally too much to do. I tried the organic burgers and discovered what a diablo was [juggler speak...] I met Ken & Liam from Bagatelle & their manager Jim. I discovered there is a difference between a DJ and an MC… more important within that context that MC does not necessarily mean master of ceremonies More than that - I got a brief insight into what … There’s more

The Walking Dead Week - Top 5 Zombie Movies

Yesterday, I posted about the new release of the latest book in The Walking Dead Series. Fantasy Bazaar has put together a Zombie filled week to celebrate this fact, and today is: The Top 5 Zombie Movies (Don’t forget to Click here to enter the competition to win a signed copy of the latest ‘The Walking Dead’ book) 5. Rec. One of the greatest horror movies to come out of Spain, this movie shocked audiences with it’s gritty realism. A viral outbreak in an apartment block leads to a quarantine. Also inspired an English remake (direct copy) and a Spanish and English language sequal.
