Finding out about Luán Parle - an exclusive interview

One of the great things about arranging all these interviews is that I get to meet some extremely talented and interesting people. One of the most interesting and talented musicians I had the pleasure of chatting to recently has been singer songwriter from Wicklow, Luán Parle.

You know what? She’s easily as pretty as that in real life.

I’d heard of Luán (pronounced Lu-On) before our chat of course. Ever since her Late Late Toy Show appearance aged 11, she has been “one to watch” and the last few years has been putting some serious graft in, touring of two years with her second album ‘Free‘ and performing her songs, including the magnificent top ten hit ‘Ghost‘.

She holds the no. 1 position as top unsigned Irish artist in Ireland on MySpace with over 3 million views. She holds lots of awards including a Meteor for ‘Best Irish Female Artist’, a Tatler ‘Music Woman of the Year’, a Big Buzz ‘Best Female Performer’ and a Balcony TV “Best Female Video”.

She’s currently letting people know about her upcoming single ‘PARADE‘,. released September 4, a very happy, clappy number that will no doubt do really well in the charts. It’s very melodic, easy to listen to and catchy - a real antidote to some of the stuff in the charts at the moment. Think Shiny Happy People, I’m Like a Bird and a bit of Feist singing 1, 2, 3, 4 and you’ve got it. If this is an indication of the album due to be released next year, fans and newcomers alike are in for a real treat.

The press reviews for Luán have been nothing but complimentary - “Given half a chance she could seduce the world“, said the Indo; “Luán Parle combines a glossy blend of contemporary / alt. Country, Folk, Pop & Rock. With her stunning looks, wonderful stage presence and obvious talent Parle could well be the next big star” said Hot Press Magazine and “Parle is a major force to be reckoned with. Watch this space.” said In Dublin Magazine. Chatting with her it’s easy to see why. Very glamorous and attractive, she’s got an infectious, bubby personality that I don’t even feel comes across fully in this interview.

So, we chatted about her name, her mammy (waiting shyly to one side), getting started in the industry, her new single, how she goes about recording, what she likes to do on her time off and so on. Despite a noisy background, it was a fun chat and interesting conversation:

The very next day Luán went to see Ian Dempsey at Today FM and recorded One on the show - here’s the full video :

Luán has recently joined twitter over on @luanparle, she’s started blogging over here and you’ll find her website here and MySpace here.

Thanks so much Luán (and your mammy) for your time - it was fun! Thanks also to Le Cirk for the space, to Niamh for filming and to Good Seed PR for arranging. Brilliant stuff.
