(500) Days of Summer

I‘ve fallen in love twice in my life. The first time, I was a young teen and it was a silly, messy, dramatic, wonderful, exciting and ultimately painful experience. The second time is deeper and means more, it’s constantly exciting and takes over every inch of me, my life, my future. And while both of these two events have affected my life, they couldn’t be more different. The only thing that both times have in common is that insane, whirlwind, obsessive beginning. The times when you figuratively and physically feel around each other, you work each other out - that need to touch, the urge to know everything about the other person, to probe their brain and eat up every word they utter. I have seen love portrayed on screen before. Woody Allen has been witty with it. Teen comedies have been funny about it. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan … There’s more

On the QT - part 10, this should do it.

I’m still excited about Inglourious Basterds. If you haven’t seen it yet, go see it or book a ticket. It’s true to say that Quentin Tarantino is a great film maker. Yes he’s made a few decisions I’m sure he isn’t entirely proud of, but luckily for him when he gets it right, the less than brilliant of his catalogue are pushed to the back. I’ve tried to mention as many of his films that I could along the way, or at least the ones that I figured where most relevant in showcasing his development and growth as a film maker. I hope I haven’t failed completely in that, I’ve enjoyed writing about him anyway and I’ve learned that I didn’t know half as much about the man and his work that I thought I did. This post is going to finish of the series by giving honorable mentions to … There’s more

Calling All Vintage Enthusiasts

Just saw this over on An Cathach. I have two Polaroid cameras sitting film-less on the shelf at home. In early 2008 they announced that film for the iconic cameras would no longer be manufactured. Enthusiasts were saddened at the fate of their beloved film and as a result started to stockpile any supplies they could find. Prices got higher as supplies dwindled and many vocalized their opinion on the decision to stop production. However an Austrian artist, businessman and Polaroid obsessive called Florian Kaps has made a move to save the format. Kaps is the founder of Polanoid.net, which is the largest Polaroid gallery online and Polanoir, the first ever Polaroid-only art gallery in Vienna. Does this make anyone else super excited?

Sadly what is says on the tin: “Birthday Sex” by Jeremih

Title: Birthday Sex Artist: Jeremih Label: Mercury Release: Out now Well Jeremih sure is cocky. The song opens along the lines of … It’s your birthday. Ziiiiiip. Where do you want me to stick your present. Yes folks its as subtle as a high velocity brick. I actually had to watch the embedding disabled video to make sure it wasn’t a Theophilus P. Wildebeeste style joke. It isn’t. The song mirrors Maxi’s review of how things would go between himself and Christina Ricci (complete with her having to stop due to temporary dehydration) if the opportunity arose. (And that review link is so not safe for work). I will admit that if I didn’t speak English, then the song sounds almost sweet but with a sexy undertone. The lyrics move it from sexy to downright slutty with a few gynaecological descriptions to add to the mix. No, don’t like it. … There’s more

A Plate of Risotto Mr. Roboto

(Image: Created by Darren) Robots are taking over the world. First in our factories, then in our hospitals and now, a first generation Terminator could be serving you up your beans on toast. I Robot, a Chinese restaurant in Guangxi have taken a huge step towards robot rights and employed a team of mechanoids to prepare their meals. The restaurant claim that even at a cost of $43,000 each the robots will have paid for themselves within a year. With each “chef” having an ability to cook up more than 300 recipes in a matter of minutes without anything other than somebody to feed raw materials into the robots. The restaurant under protest of biological culinarians claims the new machines are “better, cheaper and more hygienic” than human chefs. The probably don’t swear, throw tantrums or abuse the wait staff either. But you have to ask, where’s the love? And … There’s more
