Ladies, have you ever been sat next to a man on any description of plane, train or automobile and glanced over to see that the magazine he’s been reading contains pictures of half naked women? Have you then instantly judged him to be a perverted sad little smut monger who’d rather look at a girl with staples through her nipples than actually talk to one? Don’t be so quick. Men, have you ever sat down next to a woman on any description of plane, train or automobile and glanced over to see a scowl on her face like you’d just handed her a used nappy to sneeze into? Sure you have, we all have. Why would you want to start up a conversation with a woman who looked as if she’d skin you alive with her Jedi powers for just asking her the time? Women in the magazines don’t look … There’s more

This was one of two times he had ever worked for Disney. The other time being on “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?“ It was the second of Disney’s feature films to use the rotoscoping technique I fear I’ve said too much already.

The Kid Who Interviewed John Lennon

In keeping with my Beatles week, Will pointed me in the direction of Panti’s blog for this video. Jerry Levitan was just 14 years of age when he conducted an exclusive 40 minute interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. In 1969 Jerry tracked Lennon to his hotel room at Toronto’s King Edward Hotel after hearing a rumour that Lennon had been sighted at the Toronto Airport. Jerry inveigled his way into John Lennon’s suite and conducted the interview. In 2007, Jerry produced this short animated film, with Josh Raskin directing and James Braithwaite illustrating, using sections from that interview. The short, I Met the Walrus, has won several awards and was even nominated for an Oscar. For more info check out the official website.

To whom it concerns…

Once upon a time in a leafy suburb, far far away, a child was born. He kicked and screamed his way into the world like any other child, but this child was different. His parents just knew instinctively he was destined for greatness. The legend goes that 2 minutes after his birth, he suddenly stopped crying. All gathered around the bed were astonished at this unusual behaviour. He seemed to be in some kind of rapture. It was as if the hand God had reached from the heavens to soothe his cries. It was only when one of the porters popped his head in the door and said “Oh Jaysis, I’m late for the Late Late Show”, that it dawned on everyone in the room. It was the music coming from the television in the corner that had stopped the baby crying. The suggestion of calling the child Gay entered … There’s more

SeptemberFest in the Phoenix Park

Last September, when the weather was sunny and the days were long, we took a long walk to SeptemberFest 2008 in Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park. There we were greeted with a large beer tent, lots of food stalls and some outdoor musical entertainment. SeptemberFest is on again this year on 12 and 13 September, 11.30am to 6.30pm in Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park. The festival, although mainly for beer and other alcoholic beverages, is also a food event with a range of food stalls selling their tasty wares as well as the regular Farmleigh food market around the grounds of the house. There is free entertainment both days as well, catering to kids and adults alike. In fact last year there were several very young kids getting on down to some of the trad music being played by one of the acts A host of independent Irish micro breweries … There’s more
