The Beatles RockbandBeatles Week continues on Culch.ie with a look at the new Beatles Rockband game. To coincide with the launch of the Remastered series on 09/09/09, EA releases its newest Rockband game and it has raised the bar. In July, I went to London to preview the game and got to play around with it as well as meet one of the game’s producers.

The game (in story mode) follows the band from the early touring days in Liverpool’s bars to the immortal, final performance on the Apple Corps rooftop. We follow in the band’s footsteps as they take over the globe during the height of Beatlemania. Along the way, venues, set lists, clothing and instruments replicate the band’s rise to fame, represented in The Beatles’ touring period from 1963 to1966 and their studio days from 1966 to 1969.

A huge part of the new game is the introduction of three-part vocal harmonies to game play, a pivotal part of the Beatles repertoire. I spoke about this and more with John Drake of Harmonix, the games developers:

Of The Beatles’ epic catalogue, 45 songs will be available on-disc with more available to download in the coming months. The first ten songs that will be available on the game-disc include some of my favourite Beatles tracks like I Saw Her Standing There, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Day Tripper, Back In The USSR, I Am The Walrus (which we murdered when playing the game - and NO you may not see the video footage), Octopus’s Garden and Here Comes The Sun, with additional songs to follow.

It was also announced that All You Need Is Love, will be released exclusively on Xbox 360 a downloadable song through Xbox LIVE on September 9, 2009 with all proceeds benefitting Doctors Without Borders. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, selected the humanitarian organization as the beneficiary.

Competition

So, do you want to win a copy of the The Beatles Rockband game on the Nintendo Wii? It really is a lot of fun, no matter how awful you are at singing, drumming or playing guitar.

The game can be expanded upon with a new set of hardware replicas representing the instruments made famous by John, Paul, George and Ringo. Featured in the set are the Rickenbacker 325 and Gretsch Duo Jet guitars - two of the signature instruments played by Lennon and Harrison. As well as the Rockband game, we are giving you a replica Rickenbacker 325 Guitar, so you can feel a bit more like John Lennon.

To win the game and guitar, leave us a comment telling us what Beatles song you would like to play if you win. Winners will be randomly selected next Friday, 11th September.

For more information on the game check out www.theBeatlesRockband.com and have a look at the trailer here:

    Is hey dude on it??

nahhhhh nahhhh nah nanananan hey dude!!
    doodey doodey doooodey!

  3. Niall says:

I’ve always wanted to play Back in the USSR. My version of course would be on cellos rather than guitars because I’m that much of a snob. :)

  4. TheChrisD says:

Well, I’d play every single one of them, since I’d need the practice to ensure I wouldn’t look like a tosser when playing with friends :D

  5. Nicole says:

I’ve never even thought about buying the Wii version, since I have a PS3… I just might. http://see.walmart.com/the-beatles-rock-band/ has a countdown going on and an exclusive video, if you’re into that sorta thing. I’m excited!

  6. I’d play Across The Universe because that where this game would take me…

    Hard Day’s Night.

  12. That’s really hard to choose.
I’ll have to say With A Little Help From My Friends.
Its been an inspirational song for me

  13. Padraic Coyne says:

I’m DYING to sing and play the drums to the 16 minute medley from side 2 of Abbey Road when that downloadable content is released in October.

By the way, Hey Jude and Let It Be would suck on Rock Band unless Harmonix release a plastic piano peripheral with 49 multi-coloured keys. Think about it.

  14. John Prescott says:

    ‘I Saw Her Standing There’

    One, two, three, FOH! :)

  15. Mitchell Stirling says:

I would love to be able to play a full 22 minute version of ‘Helter Skelter’ until there were blisters on ma fingers!

  16. emer breen says:

Hey Jude, best song ever :)

  17. Kevin Connolly says:

I would like Here Comes the Sun because it’s been a long cold lonely Summer, or excuse for a Summer

  18. Pingback: Culch.ie » Blog Archive » Jim Carrey sings I am the Walrus by John Lennon

  19. Sean O'Boyle says:

Given the interactive nature of the Game it’d have to be “All together now”!

  20. Will Heigh says:

It has to be Helter Skelter

  21. Michelle Geoghegan says:

I choose ‘One after 909′, the Anthology version which is rockier.

  22. twistedlilkitty says:

I’d like to play ‘Ticket to Ride’ mostly because of this http://www.rathergood.com/chicken

Mostly because it gives me an excellent way to develop carpel tunnel syndrome.

  23. Andrea says:

We all live in a yellow submarine - please!!

  24. DaRadar says:

Being a Ferris Bueller fan It’d have to be “Twist and shout”….great for shouting/singing to at a party !
A close second though would be “In my life” for a more mellow vibe !

  25. Kevin says:

Going to have to sway to Hey Jude!

I Am The Walrus would be class!

    Eight Days a Week!

  36. Aedan says:

I’d love to give “I am the Walrus” a go.
