X Factor - Cowell turns into Cupid?

I’ve just heard this clip being mentioned on Sean Moncrieff’s show on Newstalk and I’m really not sure what to make of it. Is it staged? If so, is it acceptable? Are they really that desperate for press coverage and ratings or am I completely cynical?

    I love the editing on X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. It’s what makes the shows so eminently watchable.

    Is it a set-up? Probably. Great story. Not bad singers but still…
