In celebration of international talk like a pirate day Telltale Games are giving away the first episode of “Tales of Monkey Island” for free. Here’s a quick blurb from Telltale Back when LucasArts was called Lucasfilm Games, a creative young team introduced us to a pirate wannabe named Guybrush Threepwood in The Secret of Monkey Island. This led to a series of swashbuckling adventures where Guybrush became a Mighty Pirate™ (although not without continuing mis-steps), and the games quickly gained popularity worldwide. Monkey Island has returned in epic fashion this year with the episodic Tales of Monkey Island saga — the first of which you can get free here. The Irish Apprentice 2009

On Monday night, September 21st, Bill Cullen and The Irish Apprentice return to our TV screens. The first season ran from September to December last year and was a roaring success, spawning catchphrases like “You’re Barneybracked” and “Have you got the liathroidi?” The show even won the IFTA Award for Best Entertainment Show. This year promises to be an even bigger affair, with 14 new contestants vying to become Bill Cullen’s new Apprentice. The big man himself says that this year’s contestants are more feisty than he’s seen before and have forced him to up his game too. Does this mean we’ll be seeing a more fierce Bill? Will he, Jackie Lavin and Brian Purcell crack the whip like never before? In many ways the fun of The Apprentice starts after the person has been fired and the main show ends. Now I know there are some great Pulp Fiction moments, the dance scene, the shot to the heart moment but I just love uncomfortable silences. “Why do we feel it’s necessary to yak about bullshit in order to be comfortable? - I don’t know. That’s a good question. - That’s when you know you’ve found somebody special. When you can just shut the fuck up for a minute and comfortably enjoy the silence.”
