JC Decaux take “no such thing as bad publicity” adage too far

Photo owned by periwinklekog (cc) JC Decaux launched its Dublin Bikes last week to much positive fanfare. This week it has two flat tyres having ordered Fusio to remove its Dublin Bikes iPhone app. I asked both parties for a statement. Fusio was the only one to get back to me: Before starting development on the Dublin Bikes App Fusio contacted Dublin City Council in July to discuss it with them. They provided us with a map of the proposed locations for the stations and seemed to think the app was a good idea. We proceeded with development and launched the app in the Apple iTunes Store on the day that Dublin Bikes launched. It quickly became the most popular Irish app in the store and was downloaded approximately 3,000 times. We received very positive feedback from users and from the press. A few days later JC Decaux’s French office … There’s more

Competition: Your toast to Arthur - Guinness 250

We’ve covered Arthur’s Day quite extensively here on Culch over the past couple of months and we’re a mere day away from the event itself. To mark the occasion, I’ve come up with a unique idea and Guinness have gone with it. At 17:59 (BST) on 24th September, we’re asking you to Twitpic a picture of yourself and your pint. You can include your mates, your local landlord, whoever, the more creative the better. We’re using the hashtag #guinness250 so make sure your Twitpics are tagged as such. If you have a Twitter account then you have a Twitpic account by just logging in at their site. You can then email photos to Twitpic by getting the address from the Settings section. What’s the upside? Guinness is prepared to pay €250 for the best Twitpic. Not bad for a couple of minutes work at best eh? So, to Arthur!!

Culture Night 2009: Cork

On September 25 towns and cities across Ireland are celebrating a night of culture. Of course culture means different things to different people. In Cork there is a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and a Lord Mayor’s Tea Dance (probably unrelated). There is opera in the docks and electronic beats in an electricity sub-station. Galleries and museums (and for some reason the English Market) are open late and theatres are opening their backstages. Culture Night was first launched in Dublin in 2006 by Temple Bar Cultural Trust, with the aim of organising an event that would provide access to people who may not otherwise be able to enjoy the rich cultural offering of the country’s cultural venues. Last year over 100,000 people came into Dublin City for Culture Night and the event has now expanded nationally to a total of 11 cities including Cork and towns across Ireland. Over fifty organisations … There’s more
