The Friday Feeling - films out this week

It’s Friday and that means two excellent things. One, it’s almost the weekend and two, there are new movies in cinemas nationwide. This week sees the release of 3 big movies including the latest from Robert Downey Junior and Bruce Willis, as well as a remake of a 1980′s classic. First up is Fame, a remake of Alan Parker’s 1980 Academy Award winning musical drama of the same name. Anyone who grew up in the 80′s will be familiar with the central premise as the original movie spawned a long running TV series. The story centres around a talented group of dancers, singers, actors, etc. over four years at the New York City High School of Performing Arts. Cue lots of singing, dancing and elaborately over-the-top choreography. The students form friendships and compete with each other leading them to push themselves to the edge and beyond. The cast is replete … There’s more

You’re Fired! review

Monday night saw the airing of a much awaited first episode of The Apprentice which, I think it’s safe to say, we all enjoyed watching and live blogging. Darren has reviewed the first episode already. Straight after The Apprentice they had a new addition, a copy of the BBC2 Apprentice spin off show You’re Fired!, the BBC2 version being hosted by the amiable Adrian Chiles, the TV3 version being hosted by Brendan O’Connor. I’ll hold my hand up right now and say that I am not a fan of Mr. O’Connor. Quite the opposite, he gets under my skin and annoys me by his mere presence on the screen. But my love for all things Apprentice, and in the interest of research and fairness, I sat through the whole half hour of You’re Fired!

dita von teese hits dublin

She was in for the launch of Vodafones new 360 super dooper new technology…. whilst some of the blog world may have hoped for a photo or maybe an interview…. a brief glimpse of the star was about as good as it got, for me anyway… For those who like ‘the burlesque‘ thing and there are a few… I was a little dubious as to whether these pics should go here… but then… I’m not involved in telecoms… although I do own a phone That said, if someone got pictures of someone I was a fan of… I’d appreciate seeing them. No offence to Kelly from Vodafone here Maybe next time eh…? Unfortunately, possibly, these images are about as good as I could get. There was this really good John Williams shot of Dita but rumour has it the telecoms disruptor Pat Phelan may have got closest thanks to … There’s more

Culch.ie Catch-Up (4)

First thing is first, we got short-listed for a Web Award! Wohoo! Secondly, this weeks catch-up is a little early because at this very moment myself and half of Team Culch.ie are flying high over head on their way to Scotland to see Dave Gorman perform on a train carriage in the middle of nowhere. Expect tales of an entirely random weekend involving a comedy gig on a train and the secret missions of Ms. Bngr. Thirdly, isn’t Zooey just lovely? Movies Bngr discusses swinging. Oops, sorry Swingers, totally different thing altogether. Fun all the same. Niall fancies Cormac McCarthy’s The Road as an Oscar hopeful. Niall also questions if a Barbie movie can really make it big or will it fail due to lack of back story? I think he forgets about the millions of little girls who created their very own back stories of for self-image thrashing femme … There’s more
