What If…we could modify clouds to snow ice cream?

I’m sure some of you may have been to the recent ‘Infectious’ or ‘Bubble’ exhibitions in the ultra interesting place that is The Science Gallery in Trinity College. The Gallery has a reputation for producing some extremely thought provoking shows, and regularly have some of the biggest names in the areas of science and business in for talks and symposiums.

So, it is with great pleasure that I can talk about their latest project ‘What If…’. This exhibition is starting on October 8th (this Thursday) and will run until December 13th. It is open Tuesday-Friday 12 - 8pm and Saturday-Sunday 12-6pm. Admission is free as always, but you could be ever so generous and donate the recommended 5 yo yos to help with the running of the gallery.

So, what is ‘What If..’? As they say themselves:

‘What If…’ probes the space between reality and the impossible and where designers meet scientists to explore the future

The exhibition is curated by leading London based design duo Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby and it features some of the following amazing questions (these are my favourites):

  • What if…animals could be used as life support machines?
  • What if…we had to rent trees to offset our carbon footprint?
  • What if…human tissue could be used to make objects?
  • What if…we could evaluate the genetic potential of lovers?
  • What if…we could use smell to find the perfect partner?

You can of course read more about the exhibition and check out the full list of questions posed right here.

I’m sure you will agree that this looks like a fascinating exhibition, and hope that you will pop in some day to support one of the most innovative organisations in Dublin. I will of course be following up this post with some content and pictures from the press launch which is on Wednesday.

Visit the Science Gallery’s website for more info.

I’m going to finish by putting it to you: If you could ask a ‘What if…’ question, what would you ask?
