Hand Job Films - Dirty Music Videos

There are simply too many quality gigs happening in Dublin, you can’t get to all of them, sometimes you hear about them too late, or tickets sell out too fast… in steps our hero, Conor from Hand Job Films. I first spotted him filming The Thermals gig back in June and went in search for the videos on Youtube the following week. The results allowed me to really relive that gig all over again. The same goes for the recent amazing Pixies gig in the Olympia. The videos collected of past gigs are like a cross between official live footage and audience uploads. A perfect combo to make you feel like you were there in the crowd. In a perfect world everyone in a gig audience would have the steady hand, equipment and talent of Conor, in this inperfect world at least we can rely on one guy to keep … There’s more

Down by the bayou 2

As you may know some of us here at Culch are a little bit obsessed with Disney, and in particular their return to traditional 2D animation. Last month Rick had a date with Disney and got to see the opening 30 minutes of the first of these movies The Princess and the Frog. While the rest of us haven’t been so fortunate, footage has leaked onto the internet of the first 5 minutes of the new movie. For those who are unfamiliar with the movie, the plot is centred in the bayou around New Orleans and sees a prince named Naveen from the land of Maldonia transformed into a frog by an evil scheming voodoo magician. The frog prince then mistakes a girl named Tiana for a princess and has her kiss him to break the spell but as always things don’t go according to plan.

Harvard Boy Breffny - Would you hire him?

You gotta love this. It’s a clip of Breffny from Monday night’s Irish Apprentice on TV3. Breffny Morgan is a 22 year old Harvard graduate from Cork (though his accent screams D4). Prior to joining The Apprentice, he earned a living as a personal trainer selling and describes himself as a “battle-hardened dynamo”, whatever that means. There’s more clips and even entire episodes available on TV3′s Apprentice website.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: review

First off let me say that I thoroughly enjoyed The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. What a film! From start to finish it was a visual treat, beautiful and stunning-and I don’t just mean Valentina It was rich in colour, full of the warmth of light in dark places, atmospheric and almost always nocturnal. A jewel to behold.

Look out! The Kindle is coming

Online retailing giant Amazon today announced its intention to start selling it’s popular Kindle electronic book reader to more than 100 countries around the world. Thankfully one of these countries is Ireland. So far the device is only available from October 19th on Amazon.com and it priced at $279. When you factor in shipping ($20.98) and customs ($64.50) the price comes to $364.48, or according to my trusty calculator around about €250. No word yet as to when it will be available from Amazon.co.uk. So what do you get for your money?

I Sell The Dead-Never Trust A Corpse!

I Sell the Dead tells the tale of 18th century partners in crime Arthur Blake (Dominic Monaghan) and Willie Grimes (Larry Fessenden). After years of profitable grave robbing, events take a strange turn and justice finally catches up with the duo. As Arthur is imprisoned and waiting to be beheaded he’s visited by a Irish priest named Father Duffy (Ron Perlman). In exchange for a share in a bottle of whiskey Arthur tells the story of his life and explains how grave robbery isn’t always straightforward. It’s a quirky horror comedy that keeps pace through the 90 minutes with a nod to old hammer horror movies and i think it has the makings of a cult classic. I Sell the Dead is the first full length feature film from director Glenn McQuaid. Glenn, who hails from Dublin, Ireland took the time to speak with me recently. GOE: There’s a strong … There’s more
