The 1st Irish Music Television Video Awards

I was told about this the other day and I think it’s a great for any young music/dj/video bucks out there to show off their work (I’m way too biased to give examples but don’t let that stop you). I mean who had listened to Jose Gonzalez before the bouncing balls Sony advert? How often do you hear Nirvana’s Teen Spirit on the radio and yet the video resurfaces regularly. A good music video is one of those rare moments that marries talents, band and director, and produces some thing new. Some thing with bite.

There is a wealth of great Irish talent out there. You’ve got until THIS FRIDAY to nominate yourself, your mates, your favourite bands for this.

All you have to do is mail IMTV (via the facebook group, myspace page, DM on twitter) and send the track name, band name, directors name plus a link to the video. The nominees for each category will be announced on Front Row on Phantom FM on Monday 18th of Oct. I will post them here too for those of us who don’t get to listen in.

The winners are chosen by a panel of judges, but the award for Best Newcomer Video is a public vote so it could be anyone.

Irish Music Television (IMTV) announced the inaugural IMTV Video Music Awards to take place on the 27th November at The Sugar Club, Dublin.

The IMTV Video Music Awards are a music awards show recognising the creative endeavours and talents of filmmakers in creating music videos for Irish bands, musicians and DJs. Aiming to encourage Irish bands to collaborate with video directors and producers, combining these two art forms and reinforce a visual presence of Irish Music both online and on TV.

Its the first time music videos by Irish artist are being recognised by an Irish awards show. This unique, invite only event will be a glamorous night of award giving, live music, and entertainment for approx. 300 music industry professionals, including music journalists, bloggers, PR companies, record labels, producers and musicians.

There will be 8 categories of prizes. Six winners will be selected by the panel of music industry experts including: Sinéad Ní Mhórdha of Phantom FM, Angela Dorgan of First Music Contact, David Coffey Director, Stephen McCormack of IMTV, Niall Byrne of music blog Nialler9, and Dan Hergarty of 2fm. The best newcomer award categories will be chosen by public vote.

Categories will be:

2. Best Styled Video
3. Most Innovative idea for a music video
4. Best Dance video
5. Best Video by a Solo Artist
6. Best Video by a Newcomer (public vote)
7. Music Video of the Year
8. The Music Video Director of the Year
