I first came across The River Valley Band in Whelans during the summer when they supported the energetic and ever lovely Nell Bryden.
They had a great sound, the crowd were moving and swaying to the music and they seemed to go down really well. The band are made up of five Kilkenny lads, Danny Coady (vocals, mandolin, rhythm guitar), Eoghan Leadbetter (piano and rhythm guitar), Conor Brett (lead guitar, vocals), Liam Teehan (bass guitar) and David Thompson (drums and vocals). The guys have a really retro feel about their music and their look and indeed even their website has a ‘Ye Olde Homepage’ rather than your plain old ‘homepage’- have a look here.
Fast forward to me getting my hands on a copy of Kimberly, their new single. I can’t stop playing it at varying intervals of the day. It has such a great sound, a familiar sound. Not that it sounds like something else, I just took to it immediately and it became familiar to me. I find myself singing ‘Kimberly, Kimberly, Kimberly’ at random times of the day. Not always out loud thankfully for those around me
The guys have been together almost two years now and their debut album is due out in early 2010. In the meantime they are releasing Kimberly on Oct 16, tomorrow.
