Superb-ban Dolls!

I first heard of this place from a friend of mine a few months back and her description of a quaint boutique in a vacant industrial estate got my interest. Not the ideal location for a vintage store, but never one to pass up an opportunity for a bargain, I braved the Walkinstown roundabout and contradictory to my initial thoughts, found a charming girly oasis in the middle of the Mulcahy Keen Industrial Estate. Suburban Dolls has been open since last May and from what I see is getting a following both off and online. They carry an eclectic mix of vintage pieces, as well as a collection of once worn pieces and international labels. They also run a number of discount evenings and swop shop parties, so keep an eye on their Facebook Page for upcoming events. Best of all prices are fairly reasonable and they cater for more than just a … There’s more

This Is It - Review

We all know the story, there was no escaping it during the summer, Michael Jackson the King of Pop died on June 25th, 2009. What we didn’t know, at least up till now, was what the man himself would have been like had he lived to perform the series of 50 concerts in London’s O2 arena, from July 2009 to March 2010. In the press conference at their announcement Michael called them his final curtain call, and it is perhaps fitting that a documentary showing his rehearsals, for those self-same concerts, has now been released immortalising his memory.

MeetForReal - A Day in the Life of a Music Maker

Danish Composer of music for video games and films, Thomas Regin, and a number of amateur & pro games developers, filmmakers and musicians will be at the Twister Pepper, on Saturday 31st October (2pm-5pm) as part of the meetforeal.com series of events that aim to provoke idea sharing and inspiration, with passionate speakers, and plenty of conversation with people from diverse industries. All films need music and all video games need music… so what MeetForReal want to do is bring the worlds together for a brief afternoon. What could be nicer? I asked Ellen of MeetForReal what the site and group is all about: We want really to mess with the way people interact and meet each other, because we think that when you meet great people across all disciplines, you get triggered and see more about yourself and learn and discover and… its simple - great people inject you … There’s more

V

V ‘V‘ returns to television on November 3rd on ABC ! An intriguing photo of Morena Baccarin who plays Anna, leader of the Visitors. The show looks like it will be very good, be interesting to see how it turns out. It should be more impressive given the filmmaking technologies since the original show, also wonder if they’ll throw in a few surprises scriptwise. Here is an updated preview of ‘V‘ To have a look at the new series check out ABC’s website: http://abc.go.com/shows/v

Trailer Round-up - Oct 28th

Warner Bros. have given us our first look at the latest Clint Eastwood movie, Invictus, starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman. The story is based on the John Carlin book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation which is the true story of newly elected President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, played here by Morgan Freeman, and his attempts to unite his bitterly divided country through sport. No sport is South Africa highlighted the Apartheid racial divide more than rugby, and so Mandela set about rectifying the situation in the run-up to the South African based 1995 World Cup. Matt Damon plays Francois Pienaar the captain of the host nation, desperate to win the Webb Ellis trophy for his team and for his country. The movie will be out on December 11th in the US, just in time for the Oscars and can be seen … There’s more

What freezings have I felt, what dark days seen

It’s getting cold outside. The night’s are setting in earlier and earlier. As I left work yesterday it was pitch black – damn you Daylight Savings Time. The long coats are out in force and scarves cease to be a questionable fashion accessory, but are instead a necessity. Finger tips are freezing, begging for gloves, while car windscreens beg for some anti-freeze. There’s no more Summer festivals, no more pleasant outdoor events and barbeques are a distant memory. Nevertheless, there’s plenty to keep us going over the coming months. New TV shows, the Christmas movie season, indie gigs and late nights by the fireside in our local pub. Oh, who am I kidding, can I just hibernate until April? Wake me up when the Winter ends… Has anyone any suggestions of interesting things coming up in the next few months that might keep us for falling into a deep … There’s more
